QuisatzHaderach
I've got a small but annoying problem; I wanted to import the power armor walking sounds from FO3 into New Vegas but I've hit a snag. It's working for the most part but I've noticed some strange instances where the sounds don't play correctly (only seems to happen in 3rd person view, whenever I go back to 1st person the sounds start playing again). When walking (not runnning) forward in 3rd person with a 2 handed handle weapon such as a minigun the power armor sounds don't play and all I hear is the default footstep sounds. The same thing happens when strafing to the right or backpedaling, and there are a few other instances with different weapons/movement combinations. As I said before in each case when I switch back to 1st person view the sounds play correctly again. The only thing I can think of at the moment is that the 3rd person animations are somehow messed up by default and that the armor movement sounds aren't properly synched with all of the movement animations. Does anyone know if this is indeed this case and if so could they perhaps give me some advice as to how I would be able to fix the problem? Or am I just missing something with the way the sounds are handled in the GECK? UPDATE: I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was focusing too much on editing the power armor sound template which was completely unnecessary. All I had to do was point ALL of the "armorpower" entries in the GECK's sound files (there are a total of 6) to the .wav files from Fallout 3. I thought I didn't need to change the L/R ones because it didn't seem like they were being used by anything else. You could see where they were used in the FO3 GECK but I didn't realize that they were also used in the NV GECK since they weren't mentioned in the templates (which I thought controlled all of the armor sounds). The fact that the vast majority of sounds default to silence didn't help either. I also thought that because the power armor (PA) sound template points to the heavy armor sneak sounds that the PA sounds wouldn't play while sneaking in PA. I was wrong on both counts. I don't know why the PA sounds play while sneaking though since I can't see anything in the GECK that indicates they would. I guess the template gets overridden by the L/R sounds if there are any available (as I said most seem to default to silence). Oh well, at least I got that sorted out.
