Building an AMD PC. Need advice please

Recommended Posts

I would go amd in your case, thats a tad to pricey even for me. If i was going to build a complete setup for you it would be under 1100$, including everything from ram to video card and motherboard.

If your budget allows it sure go with intel, but they are on the tad expensive side. if you have to borrow i wouldn't do that if i where you.

if you go with amd you could upgrade to one of these video cards

Well i could justify borrowing in more extreme cases like maybe a overdue parking ticket or something.. but just so i can play skyrim at ultra and 1080. Well its a game.. i cant justify it. However. If i get my tax refund this week. That 800-850 should be possible. Howver it would leave me broke. But If i were to do so. How long future proof wise would the PC be.? 8Gb ram. 3570k. and that card. i have a Soprano Tower case. That board should fit?

I think if its a full tower case it should fit fine, depends on the if its a mid size case or a full fledged gaming case ???

in all it shouldn't matter..

Hey all. I'm finally fed up with my PC and I think it's time to upgrade - I'm currently running

AMD Phenom II x4 920 @2.81GHz 4GB DDR800 Ram. ATi RADEON 4670 1GB

Your CPU is fine. But 2.81GHz, what? It should run 3.2 at least, 3.5 preferably. It should do it easily.

GPU is the thing holding you back, it's hopeless. Just put a HD7850 in and it should be fine. It's all about the GPU, you wouldn't notice a bit of difference even if you had 3960X at 6GHz.

RAM... not perfect but it's OK. I mean, it's borderline and already a bit low for Battlefield 3 at max settings and other native DX10-11 games with 64-bit executables. But so far it's still this side of the line, you have a year to go or so.

So overclock your CPU, get a better cooler if you need, get a proper GPU.

I don't see a need to upgrade to SB or IB right now unless you're also getting a 7950 level card with that upgrade.

 So getting me another gigabyte 7950 :teehee:

you could always upgrade to one of these, at 3.6ghz at stock, could easily go over 4ghz with turbo.

if you go amd

or one of these, unfortunately amd has stopped making these chips and only pushing out he Bulldozer cpu's

Thanks guys, well its stock speed is 2.80 its not unlocked and if i bump anything up at all it wont post.

I wouldnt want to put a new card in this PC. I really think the 920 is old. I got this PC 2years ago. maybe a little longer.

My board is only ddr2 1066. its a mini atx board too. Only one card slot. and its a AM2+ socket so its olld..

The thing is i dont want to do a Incremental upgrade. like just slap some new stuff in yada yada. I would like to play games at decent settings.

Just over playing skyrim on medium high with 20fps using a Controller to compensate the frame drops. But i know only spending this much i cant expect a lot

not to mention the wear and tear this builds been through... didnt turn it off for 6 months straight at one point lol. I think the boards had a fair life.. just a harsh one of high temps and a lot of dust. So a new PC i think would be the way to go?

Hmmmm...

Perhaps the new mobo/cpu/ram would be a good route to go.

Ironic I used to have a 920 then I made the switch to my current setup, it made a tremendous improvement despite the fact that I was still using my Radeon 4890, (GTX 670 is on the way, should be here today :) )

Yeah I saw a T1100 gor like 180$ the other day with Zalman Cooler, I was going to get it to put into my AMD mobo but decided not to since I knew the 3570k would be more powerful.
