bryman1970
I'd like to start a vampire-based game and the only two vampire overhaul mods i've found so far are Unholy Darkness and LTD-Vampire Overhaul. I know it's all about preference, but can anyone tell me if one of these mods might have a better track record than the other? Less bugs? Better overall content? etc. Any other reputable vampire-based mods are welcome also (race mods, player-home mods, quest mods, etc.). Thanks in advance. WarRatsG
LTD uses a lot of inspiration from other vampire mods out there, but seems to give it's own little twist on those ideas. It has a good track record, but it doesn't have as much content as other vampire overhauls. Luckily, the content it does have works very well. You are also very quick to earn all the new powers, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference. It's also very modular, so anything you don't like can usually be turned off. Unholy Darkness seems to have a lot of content, but after a while you will see that it is actually only slightly larger than LTD. The difference though, is that UD dresses up everything with shaders, hotkeys and sound effects. Also, a lot of the content in it is very unique, like weakness to garlic and damage inside a temple (which is clever but can be very annoying during some quests). It focuses more on physical improvements than shadow magic or anything like that, but it does that very well. My main problem with it is that the powers take a long time to come. I've not played any save for much more than 50 game days, so I was only ever able to become a youngish-middle aged vampire. I can't remember if the highest age was 6 months or a year, but you get the idea. Luckily, the powers that you do have are already mapped out to certain keys, however the position of these hotkeys can be changed or swapped for spells. I'm sure you've read the description of both mods, so you actually know what each one actually contains. I've only given my opinion on how they are different. Also, I'm going to do some shameless self-advertising :P. There is a new vampire mod on it's way, a revival of Terran Vampires. I won't go into huge detail, but it's been in production for over a year and has over 100 uniquely scripted powers, 9 playable clans with their own unique advantages and disadvantages, a vampire society, vampire hunters, a humanity and frenzy system, player-controlled evolution, quests and more. Even after the first release, there will be a lot more to follow in updates. You can view the WIPz thread in my signature. ;)
bryman1970
I've already began a game using Unholy Darkness. I''m also using Lithian's Nature Of The Beast and Aghea's Hgec Tortured Soul Fixed mod to give it a little more creepiness. I've never played a vampire before, so I can imagine it might get a little frustrating with most of Cyrodiil wanting to kill me or run away, but i'll do my best. I think once I play it for a while, i'll get the hang of it. By the time your mods are out, I just might have to check it out. Thanks for the reply and good luck with your mod. kian273
The big drawback I've seen using UD, silver weakness is gone and without UVIII's instant kill crits, the npc vampires will destroy you because they can't die due to their health pool and regen... I had to lure a single vampire to a city just to have the guards help me out, it wasn't even a top tier vampire either... hell, I did a save right before I got it to attack the guards(btw this was midday, it was still at full hp this whole time...) and it would kill all the guards in town unless a crit attack occurred(which isn't too bad, but given that the crit system in UVIII is so random you're lucky to EVER get a crit...NPCs on the other hand seem to crit me constantly...) SenseiMewtwo12345
Yeah, the features and quests of UD are cool and all, but the NPC vampires are completely overpowered. Even the weak ones are immortal because they have a constant health regen that keeps them at full health, even in sunlight, and even when literally being attacked by an entire city. Whenever I encounter one, I just kill it with console, because I know that I could wail on it all day long and never kill it. Constant health regen in overpowered, and that's why it was removed after Morrowind... Makes the game too easy for the player and makes enemies immortal. Unholy Darkness would be perfect if not for that, and the mod author included no option to turn it off. You're better off with the LTD Vampire Overhaul. I find some of the mechanics of that mod to be a lot more annoying, like having to have a character that exists for a full in-game year before ever reaching your true power and the constant dying due to needing to feed too often early on to the point where it becomes almost impossible to survive the early stages, but once you get past that part the mod is at least fair in terms of not making you or your enemies overpowered. Xentariel
Sorry for the necro but I've made a patch for the Unholy Darkness vampires being op. Halved the hp boost and removed the regen.
