Is there a way to make a race edit esp not effect all races?

I'm trying to make a custom race, to put my character in as an npc into my compilation clothing and armor mod. Trouble is, and it's happened before, when I make any changes to any races in an esp, it screws up the hair, face, and body references for ALL races, and then my existing characters can't use the hairs from my beauty pack (Ling's, in this case). I don't want to make the file dependent on Lings or any other file. Adjusting the load order Does fix the problem, as long as I have a Ling's dependent esp I can put underneath the one I'm making, but that is not an optimal fix. Is there anything that I can do?

When you right-click, and then 'new' where the races are listed, it brings up the race box. Just by clicking on any race on the left, creates a dirty edit. The Geck has been bugged like this since FO3.

My suggestion is to not create new races this way. Don't right-click and press 'new'. Just make a copy of an exiting race by highlighting it, Press F2, Enter a unique name, and press 'Yes' to create a new object. No dirty edits this way.

If you do make a dirty edit, just open the plugin with FNVEdit and remove the ITM.

Not what you asked, but there's another problem you might run into as well. There is a known bug with custom races in patched versions of Fallout. The game will not correctly shade a character's body color to match the face color for custom races in an ESP file. The only workaround is to save your mod as a master (.ESM) file instead of a plugin (.ESP) file, which you can do using the TESSnip utility in Fallout Mod Manager. Edited by Belthan

I didn't do new, I actually did just duplicate the hispanic race, and it was still an issue, so I guess I'll just use NVEdit and see how things go. But yes, I'm aware of the issue with the body, having made quite a number of npcs before. Luckily, her skin is pale enough to not be trouble, and her outfit covers up all of the seams, so it shouldn't be an issue unless you remove her clothing, and I intend to make doing that as absolutely difficult for the casual gamer to do as possible. :pirate:

Pretty sure that only applies to NPCs, and it's regardless of whether they are a custom race or not.
