Game doesn't remeber I completed quests

I posted this as an addendum to an older topic I started, because I now had the same problem TWICE, but I figured I should start a whole new thread just for this problem. My game just doesn't remember any quests I have completed from mods (CC or otherwise)!

The last time I thought I caused it with an ill-fated mod attempt, but this time all I did was remove a mod. One I got from Bethesda, I might add. Does that have something to do with it? Is it because it was an 'unmanaged' mod (not one I downloaded with MM2) that it somehow changed the ID's in such a way that the game doesn't recognize the data from the saves?

I really thought it was a one-in-a-million fluke when it happened the last time - I lost a lev.126 saved game. That's why I started a new play-through. I am only level 30 this time, so its not as game-breaking, but still, I'm afraid to play anymore. Has anyone ever heard of this problem before? It CAN'T be the saves that are corrupted - no matter how far I go back the same thing happens (all the quests act like they are starting at once). It has to be MM2 (or the game) itself - its not recognizing the save-data.

Okay, so I think it has something to do with the latest update. My game isn't updated (I had already rolled it back several days ago - I seem to have been force-fed the new 'patch' (some silly CC alien content) earlier than most, and I got rid of it. But today I am having tons of CTD's, and I see others are having similar problems.

Whatever they did, the game doesn't 'place nice' with rolled-back .exe files anymore. I could just put the correct .exe back in now that F4SE has updated, but that would mean most of my other uber-mods won't work, right?

God, I HATE Bethesda. All this heartache so they can do one more cash-grab with craptastic CC content. And to think, I actually considered buying it because I like alien stuff... I'm not buying it now. They've pissed me off.

They have F076 to break now - why can't they just leave us the hell alone?

I read somewhere that even when you play 'offline', Steam is still running in the background (I have always hated Steam), and if the version of the game isn't the same as the one it knows you should have (which would be whatever one it was last able to check - that data gets stored regardless of whether you're playing on Steam or not), it will still not let you play, EVEN WHILE 'offline'.

Because everything I've read on Steam's own forums on the subject - people going somewhere where they won't have internet for awhile - says you CAN play the game, so long as its FULLY UPDATED before you go 'offline' (because the thing is keeping track no matter what). The only way to 'fool it' would be to NOT go online for a very long time (from before the game updated). As soon as you do go online, Steam KNOWS there is a newer version, regardless of whether you connect to Steam or not. Thus, the advice on their forums is to fully update everything before going offline.

That's some s__t, huh? I've always hated Steam. For years I refused to play any game that forced you to use it.

So today I am on Steam, trying to 'play nice' and verify everything. I think my problem may have stemmed from my moving all my gaming stuff EXCEPT the main steam folder from my 'C' drive, so the Steam stuff was split across two drives, and while I was running the same version of everything it didn't matter, as soon as I tried to update stuff only half the info was really getting updated (because Steam was automatically sending stuff to the 'C' drive instead of the 'D' drive where I had Fallout). At least, that is my assumption right now (since this problem is nearly identical to the one I had nearly a week ago when the game updated without me knowing). So I am hoping (praying, really) that now that I've migrated Steam completely to my 'D' drive where everything else is, and merged the two parts of it back together, AND verify everything to make sure its not broken beyond repair because of all this, that I WILL be able to finally play again. Who knows? Maybe it will even run better. But hey, I'll take what I can get at this point.
