pafman123
About every 30-60 seconds, Skyrim will suddenly, without warning, freeze for about 2-5 seconds (with music still playing) before returning to normal. There is no specific location or action that causes it; it happens all the time no matter what I am doing. I could be in a menu, in dialogue, in the overworld, in a dungeon, fighting, anything -- as long as it's running it will constantly lock up for short periods of time and then resume. It's barely playable and extremely frustrating. Any ideas what could be causing it or how to fix it? As for my computer specs, I am running a Intel i7 Quad Core processor at 3.2ghz and an Nvidia GTX 580 with 16GB of RAM. It seems like it should be able to handle the load, and aside from the constant freezing, the game runs smooth as butter, so I don't think my rig is the problem. I am running a few .ini tweaks but they are nothing big, as far as I can remember I only enabled tree and environment self-shadowing and a few draw distance tweaks - IIRC the freezing started much, much later after I had tweaked my .ini files, so I also don't think those are the issues. I did a little research but nothing I found helped me out much, so I'm hoping that someone here will be able to help. Thank you very much. :) P.S. I am launching with SKSE and SBW, in case that makes any difference. I also noticed that my latest save file is almost 60mb - not sure if that is indicative of anything bad but most time I see people mentioning their save file size, they say it is around 10-20mb, so there might be something there. pafman123
Okay, so after a little digging, I am almost positive that the issue is caused by save file bloating, as I have found a few other instances of people having similar problems. However, none of the mods I have are the ones that were causing their save files to become bloated, and I don't know how to check which one is the culprit. It's also possible that I've already uninstalled the one that has caused the bloating because I haven't noticed any large increases lately, but it also hasn't gone down to a normal size yet, like other peoples have after uninstalling the offending mods. Any ideas how to get the size back to normal?

pafman123
Right now, my latest save is at 59.1mb. I've also noticed that it has been taking a significantly longer time to save and load than it was when I first started this playthrough. Checking back through my previous saves, my save file seems to be going up by anywhere from .5 to 1mb on every hard save I make. Is there anyway to check which files in your data folder are no longer associated with mods? I think I might still have some leftover scripts in my scripts folder from mods that I've previously uninstalled, and I'm tempted to clean them out in the hopes that that will fix the issue, but I'm not sure which scripts are associated with which mods. pafman123
I installed the possessive corpses mod, went inside a tavern and waited 31 days. My save file went down by .7mb but I think that's all I'm going to get out of that mod. I'm going to go play some more and see if it is still bloating. pafman123
So, I recreated my merged bashed patch, which ended up adding a few mods to it, and a couple things have happened after playing the game for a few minutes. Any new saves I created (still on the same character) had their size drastically reduced. It went down from about 60mb to 3.4mb, so that seemed to be good. However... For some reason, the original freezing problem was much worse. The game still occasionally froze up, but it did so for at least 10 seconds, sometimes even close to 20 seconds. Loading also took much longer, and the time it took to create saves (both hard saves and quicksaves, although the autosave didn't seem to be affected) had been drastically increased. Because of that, I figured I would try restarting the game. I closed it, then relaunched, and now when I try to load those new, unbloated saves, it tells me that my save game is corrupt and cannot be loaded. However, when I try to load my older, bloated savegames, it loads just fine. I continued to play for a couple minutes on my bloated saves, and they did not go down in size at all, and the save/load/freeze times were back to the way they were earlier. Any ideas what could be causing my game to behave so erratically? Edited July 7, 2012 by pafman123
gringo40life
I am having the same problem, I don't have any save game bloating, I am using a number of the same mods as you but none that I have recently installed, being this problem only showed up recently, I have another side effect though usually sound will stop working (music will still be running) and npcs/textures won't load, then after a few seconds my game will freeze, right now I only suspect something wrong with d3d9 (because I switch from enb/realistic to rcrn and the problem persisted), or a loose script will let you know if I figure anything out
daver219
I don't have a problem with file bloating, but I did have random freezes of the game as soon as Skyrim updated. It was getting ridiculus. I fixed the problem by removing the Unofficial Syrim Patch and going here and downloading a different patch Unofficial Skyrim Patch: http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/files/category/21-hosted-projects/ Ironically, after installing this downloaded patch via nmm and placing it as the first .esp file in the load order, the problem was solved. It ironically improved my load times, not sure why, and cleared two quests that had been completed but would not show as such? Anyway, I have had no problem with this patch thus far. Not sure if it would help in your case but thought I would throw it out there.
