Devastator193
I have a gt 520 and Athlon II x2 250... in other words i have a 60$ graphics card and a processor half as good lol .... So in about a week I will have upgraded to a gtx 570 and a Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition ;) and i would like to know how hard i can run skyrim... now with my old equipment i could push low everything with no aa or af and get around an average of 30 fps  ... I know nvidia claims the gtx 570 can do avg of 44 with maxed out settings, but can i actually do that? is that the real world average and is the phenom ii x4 965 BE good enough to get rid of my bottleneck? Response is appreciated thanks guys :D
Septfox
A 965 is more than sufficient; in fact, it's still one of the more powerful processors on the AMD side, particularly when overclocked. Anyway, I have a crappy little 960t, and it works fine even at stock speeds (3ghz/3.4ghz turbo). As for the video card, a GTX 570 is apparently slightly more powerful than a 5870, which is what I have. Without ENB installed, and with the game on Ultra (additionally: tweaked to allow tree/landscape shadowing, AA turned OFF and using the wrapper version of SMAA) using stock meshes and textures, I average 40-50fps, sometimes going as low as 30 in geometry-heavy areas (forests, town overlooks, etc). So you should be able to expect at least that, probably 5-10fps+ better on average. Adding ENB or the like will pull several frames per second off of course, depending on the configuration. If you're willing to compromise on some things (shadow resolution, water processing, tree/landscape shadows) you should be able to hit 60 easily enough. The game is quite nice looking on Ultra though, and 40-50fps is more than playable.
Rooker75
I have an Athlon X4 and a GTX 465 card. With the 301.42 drivers that just came out, I'm running at Ultra + a few enhanced settings through the graphics controller (transparent anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, etc). I could turn on ambient occlusion too, but it had a weird shimmering effect, so I turned that off. The worst location in Skyrim is probably the Morthal swamp and I'm running FPS there in the high 30s. Most everywhere else is in the 50s and 60s or higher. Devastator193
I appreciate the replies guys  ... see sometimes things on paper are not what they are when you get them... I'm glad to say then that Nvidia is not one of those people... my gt 520 looks at medium settings with no aa or af like :hurr: ... which can be annoying :wallbash: ... i think ill keep skyrim on medium with this new card so i can max fps... but its nice to know the new card will look at medium like :whistling:  ... can any of you fellas answer what the average max load temp for the 570 HD Double Shot... which is what i got.... mind you my case is small enough that i will have to move a hard drive to get it fitting  ... so please count in the double fans but the small space... its a mid tower.... and Nvidia's nearly biggest card... 10-11 inches long Edited July 8, 2012 by Devastator193
