[LE] How to turn major quest NPC into follower?

I've seen people turning NPC like Brynjolf and Karliah into followers.

 

I've tried to add faction and relationship through CK but no avail.

I thought of creating a copy NPC but meh. That'll be the last thing I'd do.

 

Thieves Guild is my home and I'd like to have everyone available as follower. Nexus provides everyone except Mercer, for obvious reason. But truth is, I think he's an awesome boss. It's fun to listen to his sass during fights.

 

And yes, I know the Snow Veil Sanctuum trick, but I'm talking about real follower you can dismiss at any time.

Some NPCs have unique voice types. The vanilla follower system isn't set up for them so even if you tweak factions and relationship ranks, the dialogue won't fire.

You'll need to add extra dialogue options to the dialogue follower quest in the creation kit.

 

Target Mercer as the specific actor, write his lines, copy the scripts used to control followers.

 

You're essentially making a custom follower. Here's a good guide to follow with script commands.
