Reputation, Rebalanced

The vanilla values for New Vegas reputation shifts are, shall we say, out of whack. Gunning down one or two squads of Legion/NCR soldiers will rapidly catapult you into Vilified status...yet nuking an entire garrison with HELIOS ONE is barely recognized at all.

Alas, reputation rebalance mods are few and far between. The closest I could find was Logical Reputation Shifts by BubbaBrown. According to the description, it lowers the reputation impact values for assualting and killing faction members, but nothing to alleviate the HELIOS ONE problem.

However, BubbaBrown provided some interesting information in his mod description:

In the game engine there's a good and bad point counter for each reputation that factions base their decisions on. You can commit crimes against factions in varying degrees. The issue I found is that the "Major Crime" point increase was set to 30. This is in stark contrast to the "Major Good" point increase of 7. And since assault and murder are major crimes individually, you can see how this could stack against your favor quite quickly. Based on the stock logic, saving a town from certain doom is over 4 times less in value than assaulting someone.... (that's not including killing them.)

BubbaBrown seems to "fix" the problem by lowering the infamy value for "Major Crimes."

My ideal mod would make changes along these lines:

  • Assaulting and killing soldier faction members is now a "Minor Crime." The "Major Crime" tag is reserved for specific actions such as the incineration of the HELIOS ONE garrison.
  • "Major Crimes" grant 60 infamy points (up from 30).
  • "Minor Crimes" grant fewer infamy points. 10, perhaps?
  • Nuking a faction in Lonesome Road immediately makes you vilified with that faction regardless of past reputation, as in this mod.

The intended impact would be to make becoming Vilified into a bit more work for the player, and therefore more satisfying, while making certain actions of gratuitious hostility (burn them to a cinder with a kill-sat!) more satisfying still.

Can this please happen? I would legitimately pay money to see this on the Nexus.
