senterpat
Ok, so I installed skyrim when it came out, played the hell out of it and moved on, but now I'm trying to go back and play it again, but I have a pretty annoying screen glitch that wasnt there the first time I played, and there have been no changes to my computer. (I did however install the skyrim patch, which I suppose could be causing it) But the problem is that my screen gets tinted like im walking under a bridge or something with a shadow, when theres nothing above me, it does a lot of flickering, between the proper tint and the shadowy tint.. If anyone could off any insight into this I'd be much obliged, as I've spent about 3 hours trying to figure this out and I'm on the verge of just going back to fallout or starcraft. xlcr
@senterpat, i'm guessing you may have a known 1.6 patch shadow bug which might be fixed by uninstalling ENB (or other display mod) mods and/or disabling (rename/delete) the d3d9.dll file in your Skyrim folder. But first, check the comments sections of ENB/other display mod's you're running for reports of issues and fixes/updates relative to the recent v1.6 patch. It does this with no mods, but I'll try and check and locate the d3d9 file. edit: I dont think I have that file, I can't locate it in my skyrim folders... But ya this happens with just vanilla skyrim and the update.esm.. It's been 7 hours of trying to fix this now, its pretty infuriating. xlcr
@senterpat, again, i'm guessing at solutions, are you getting tint flicker glitches somewhat like this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=MgAEBYwtIkQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgAEBYwtIkQ and/or exaggerated phantom shadows flashes like this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=6M0RW5eEbg4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M0RW5eEbg4 you might want to try installing an FPS limiter and set it to something under 60 fps or 5-10 fps below your monitor's refresh rate (some people cap it at 40 fps with good results):FPS Limiter by GriefReaper - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34 also, experiment with enabling VSync (you might not need VSync if the limiter works for you)\My Games\Skyrim\Skyrim.ini (might need it in SkyrimPrefs.ini also):[Display]iPresentInterval=1Also check your graphics card control panel global and game profile settings for forcing VSync ON. I'm assuming your graphics card drivers are updated to a recent good working version.(I have no idea what kind of gaming rig you have..). senterpat
It's not the first one, it's not that bad. But the second one looks about the same, exagerrated shadows and whatnot. My rigs not the greatest, but I'm fully updated on drivers, I managed to get it to stop flickering, by disabling some of the LOD shadow options in the .ini, its working fine now, as long as I dont mind no dynamic shadows. Thanks for your help, I'll try the FPS limiter, I read about that, but on the site I saw it on it said it wasn't useful for later patches. And I'd already switched the vsync off, so I dunno what the problem is. I mean I know its bethesdas update, but I hope I can figure it out. MightyZ0G
I had the problem from the second video after messing with the skyrimprefs.ini it turned out that instead of setting iShadowMapResolution to 4096 I had made a typo and set it at 4960.correcting the typo fixed the problem.also check that iShadowMapResolutionPrimary and iShadowMapResolutionSecondary have correct values and check in the skyrim.ini as well list of values 1024 (blocky)20484096 (smooth)
