Is Lightworks seriously used for real films?

Really? It's so unbelievably buggy.

You can't even dub over video without changing the project settings to something extremely specific and you also can't delete old microphone devices. Also, half the export options cause CTDs and half the "supported" input types are green / black with all prereqs installed and no extra "codec packs" or anything of the like. The beta was actually more useful than the release build ...

I don't have the cash sitting around for Vegas or one of Adobe's solutions and obviously we can't just get uhh ... "hook and peg leg edition." Is LW seriously supposed to be the best free editing solution?

Have you tried the new release? It fixes a lot of problems. Actually, it's extremely stable, but some combinations of codecs need extra work. Most people are happy with the new release. Post on the www.lwks.com forum for specific advice.

Are you using Pro or the free version?

Using free at the moment. Will give the new release a shot, but wow the "we're out of beta" release was a disaster. It also installs some shitty DRM rootkit from a no-name company even for the free version ...

I kinda hope someone at the company will see it as an "obligation" to follow through with the open-source promise and make a leak.
