dubiousintent
Please provide ALL the information requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article. Don't forget to identify things that do not appear in the "load order", such as if you are using a "regional language version" of the game; using the FNV4GB Patch, NVSE and it's related plugins; replacements for textures (specifically their larger image sizes: 1024x1024, etc.), animations, or "bodies", etc.; and "post-processors" like ENB or SweetFX. It saves us playing "20 questions" and gets you a more specific answer more quickly. (The usual turn-around on post and reply in an older game forum is 24 hours.)* See "How to markup images (etc) in forum posts and comments" article for how to use "Spoiler tags". Please see the 'Vanilla "Load Order"' entry in the 'First Timer Advice' section; and the 'Common Game Problems' section, of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. If the problem persists, then see either the 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' or the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' sections in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.I recommend you read the entire "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to understand the differences between this game and others you may have experience with; especially if this is your first attempt to mod FNV or it's been more than a year since you last did so. The following entries in the wiki 'Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting' guide specifically address known Win10 problems:* 'Issue: NVSE - fails to load after update KB4058043 to Win10 FCU (v1709)'* 'Issue: Incomplete save game load' (NVSR related)* 'Issue: Vanilla game Hangs on startup'; specifically "Cause-1" regarding DirectX9 drivers.* 'Issue: "Full screen mode" exhibits CTDs and stutters or micro-stutters'* 'Issue: Recent (post-Win10 FCU) CTDs after 10-20 minutes of play'* 'Issue: Lag or "micro stutters" even with "New Vegas Stutter Remover" installed (or not)'. In particular "Cause-4" regarding video card settings. The latest video drivers may not be the best suited to an older game like FNV. All vendors drop testing of old games at some point. Backwards compatibility is never guaranteed, much less "optimization". Also, "Cause-7" regarding "Superfetch" and "File search indexing". Windows updates will often reset these back on.* 'Issue: Win10 Screen tearing in "Borderless Windowed Mode"'* 'Issue: ENB Support for Windows versions later than Win7'* 'Issue: Problems using ENB/SweetFx on Windows 10' From the above, you should realize that this is not a game you can just install a bunch of mods and expect it to work correctly. Take your time to do things right, and we will get you up and going. -Dubious-
NizzyEE
Hey, thanks for the reply. I was going through the list of you provided and also did a search to find someone with a similar problem. Apparently it has something to do with RealTek audio drivers screwing up the game. Using headphones solves the issue temporarily, but I haven't been able to find a fix to the audio driver issue. I've updated drivers and also tried using Microsoft high def drivers instead - no luck. If not using headphones, game becomes unplayable. Any thoughts?Thank you so much.
dubiousintent
Hey, that's progress! You've narrowed it down to a specific cause. Not everything can be solved by changing the driver (either to a newer or older one; driver support for specific games can get left off as they age). It is not a good idea to let Windows automatically update mouse, video, and audio drivers. Personally I don't let it automatically update anything. Make informed choices or suffer the consequences. You have to realize that the entire world is MS's "beta test community", and it can be sloooow to fix problems that only affect marginal parts of their market. There are several questions you need to ask: 1) Is this problem specific to this game only, or does it occur with all games? If the former, then it is most likely a game setting (try a lower quality setting or search on "sound" or "audio" in the wiki 'Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting' guide); if the latter then it is likely a windows control panel audio setting. 2) You have more than one audio driver installed, so disable those you aren't actively using and see if the situation changes when you switch between them. Be sure to change configuration in the Windows Control Panel "Sound" control, the "system tray" "Speakers" icon, and any vendor specific controls such as the driver or a "sound mixer" each time you switch. Note that some video cards (i.e. nVidia) provide audio drivers and controls as well. Check all of the tabs of each control app. This article has RealTek Audio settings suggestions. You can search the web for other audio vendor suggestions. 3) Note that some computers have two "sets" of jacks for audio input and outputs: front panel and back panel. Not all are necessarily "hooked up". Try both sets. 4) Make sure that you have DirectX sound acceleration enabled. You can go to Dxdiag (DirectX Diagnostics; it's a separate app), go to the "Sound" tab and check the settings in there. 5) If your audio is "built-in" to the motherboard, it's competing with the rest of the system IO (and losing). If available, switch to any addon dedicated sound card. If that isn't possible, consider if it's feasible to add one. (Unless you are a true audiophile, they don't have to be expensive for games. Anything compatible with "SoundBlaster" or whatever the game "requires" will generally work well.) The good news is that once you worked this out, you are unlikely to need to go through it again. -Dubious-
Deleted53139156User
Have you tried these changes in your fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini? Check all of them should be at least 4 or 6 in total if using MO2.[Audio]bEnableAudioCache=1iAudioCacheSize=8192iMaxSizeForCachedSound=1024 Edited December 30, 2018 by Guest
