It sounds like one of two problems.

First that NMM is pointing to the wrong folder and installed your mods to the wrong location. Check this by clicking the gears icon to open the settings window, change to the skyrim tab and make sure that the skyrim directory is pointing to the folder where TESV.exe is located.

Or the mods are structured in such a way that NMM installed them incorrectly (odds of this happening for all eight mods though seems pretty low).

ok. so i did the first thing you said, i went to settings and changed the skyrim directory to the file containing TESV.exe. but i think it was already at that file? anyway when i did that a window popped up immediately and said that Nexus Mod Manager had some kind of error or bug and that it needed to close. so i looked at the details and said ok. then when i opened it again and clicked on skyrim 8 messages popped up and uninstalled each of my mods from NMM. im so confused :psyduck:

Sorry that didn't work for you. I don't know anything else to look at. You could always try installing them manually, it is pretty easy to do but makes it hard to uninstall them.

If the mods are only texture/mesh replaces they often won't have a .esp file to active which may be why you are not seeing them?

yea i just uninstalled the ACE overhaul one i think it was called. i installed it manually and it did show up as like five or six different .esps in the start up data files window. so i checked them and then said OK and clicked play and it just crashed before it even got to the main menu .. over and over. but when i unchecked them the game would work just fine no crashing at the main menu. so i decided to uninstall it and you're right it was a pain to uninstall. but it was just wasting space and not working. i have one other mod that when checked off makes the game crash, it's by hothtrooper44 i think or something like that, anyway it's the Immersive armors mod. any idea how i can get this one to work without it crashing at the, main menu?

or maybe you can tell me how to uninstall it ? at this point i only have 3 mods..

To uninstall it you can look at the files that are in the original file you downloaded and remove them from your Skyrim data folder one at a time. As for getting help I would recommend posting on the thread for the mod or private messaging the author since he would be in a better position to help. Also, even if you have already done it read the readme and/or description for the mod, you might notice something that you missed doing that the mod requires.
