xachan86
Okay, i have a weird problem with my saves in Oblivion. One day, i launched Wrye bash and it said that the autosave.bak had corrupted headers. Since that time, it's hard for me to load a game from the menu : when i move the mouse on one of my saved games, the game CTD. Sometimes, i have the time to load a game before it crashes, then i play normally but as soon as it wants to do an autosave, it CTD again... Does anybody know by chance a solution to that problem ? I must add that each time i go to the option menu and try to disable the autosave, it crashes as well...
Varus Torvyn
Use Windows Explorer to delete the Autosave files. Then you should be able to autosave again. I grew a bit tired of having to do that periodically. The autosave.ess file would be corrupt, so I'd delete that one and rename autosave.bak to autosave.ess. I wound up disabling auto & quick saves, and now just do my own saves.
xachan86
Unfortunately, i think that the problem is more serious than that. I did what you said, but to no avail. Then i manually disabled the autosave in the .ini, but it doesn't change much. I think that the whole install is unstable now and that the best i can do i to make a new clean install... Thanks for your advice, anyways.
Varus Torvyn
Did you disable it across the board? Go to "Gameplay Options" and turn off "Save on Rest", "Save on Wait" and "Save on Travel". Exit, then change your Oblivion.ini file by making the following =0: "bAllowScriptedAutosave=0" and "bSaveonInteriorExteriorSwitch=0"
xachan86
I couldn't even disable it from the board ! Each time my mouse was approaching those options, the game crashed... So i disabled them by hand in the .ini file, along with the two other you mentioned, but it doesn't change anything. The game crashes faster than ever, i can't even launch a game... And this is after doing a clean new install... I don't understand, it might be something else than the saves, then...
xachan86
Okay, i did a new clean install. I got rid of several mods that might not be so important after all, just to avoid to break the 250 mods limit in Oblivion. First of all, before installing anything else, i've launched Oblivion and got rid of the autosave. Everything was working perfectly. So i install my mods. They are all mods that worked perfectly together for a long time on my former computer. So i know they work well together. I use FCOMhelper to sort all the possible load order problems. Then, i launch the game. Everything works fine, i even have access to Ren's eyes and hair for my characters (I use beatiful people last version), which i can't do without doing a little change in Oblivion with the Construction Set (yes, my Oblivion is French, and BP "breaks" the path to the default races by changing their name back to english defaults. But that's something that is easily taken care of). So i create a character wihtout thinking too much about it because it's just a test character. Everything goes perfect, the mods load when i'm in the starting prison cell, no crash, nothing at all, i'm very happy. Then the next day, i decide to create my "real" character for the game (yes, i've decided to start a brand new save). First i remark that i don't have access to hairs and eyes... Doesn't really matter after all, i start to play, everything goes perfect, then at a time, Streamline wants to do a streamsave. Then it crashes... Since then, i have the same problem than before : i hardly can load a game at all, and when i hit the "continue" button in the menu, the game loads, i arrive in the game and it instantaneously crashes before i can do anything... Wrye bash (v. 205) doesn't tell me that the save is corrupt, though... Heeelp, does anybody know what to do ?? It's the fourth time i do a clean install of Oblivion, i'm really fed up !! Sounds like that's your problem right there. I don't know what it is but it seems like your Streamline is messing something one. If you can disable it or turn it off completely I'd do that, reinstall oblivion (I know, it sucks especially since you're on your fourth) and then from there test it, if it works fine then reinstall your mods and such, and just disable Streamline whenever you play Oblivion. I might be wrong here, but it does seem like that program is the culprit.
xachan86
Yeah, i will try that, just to see if streamsave is the one responsible for those crashes. But still it's strange because streamline worked perfectly before and never caused any problem to me...
Khet
Well like I said, I don't what what Streamline or Streamsave or Streamcooking is, or even Streamwater for that matter, but it sounds like there's your problem since the crashes resumed soon as the program did it's little thing that it does, whatever that is. xachan86
Streamsave is a mod that helps to smooth things in Oblivion by tweaking the .ini in real time to get the most FPS in any case. Streamsave is a part of Streamline and tends to replace the somewhat buggy autosave system of Oblivion. I don't know why suddently it doesn't work anymore with a set of mods i usde without any problems before ! But now, it crashes at the exit of the sewers, without Streamline being enabled... :/
