Lip
Sup guys. Hey quickly can someone give me a link on the CS Wiki or explain to me how to modify a staff in the CS to be wielded like a torch? (And someone please tell me sometime how NOT to post pictures as links...lol :) ) Anyways I wanna be able to mod a certain staff to be able to wield it like that so if someone can tell me how I'd really appreciate it :D. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Vagrant0
The only thing that can be held like a torch is a torch. Any staff held in that manner can only be used as a light. There are a couple of mods already out there that accomplish this, and it is even blended into OOO. The actual process for configuring a staff to work like this cannot be done solely in the CS, but instead requires a bit of knowedge in working with nodes within nifscope. Essentially you need to make a new nif file containing the staff mesh, a havok mesh, and a properly configured light node. Then in the CS you need to create a new light and use the staff as the mesh for the light, define the properties for the light (no wiki page) and make the item obtainable somehow in game. If you do not understand how to do this, your best bet would be to simply use one of the mods where this is already done, and instead try to do something that you don't need someone to hold your hand every step of the way to get done. Although this is fairly trivial for someone already familiar with those tools, for someone totally inexperienced, who finds it necessary to bump their thread 4 hours after the initial post despite a fairly slow moving forum, such a task can prove very frustrating for all involved. There are no tutorials or guides specifically for this, as this is something few people have reason to do. In game lights just suck.
Lip
Yeah I just need to wield the torch like a light, I accomplished that in the Cs but my guy does the torch wielding animation for the staff but the staff remains on my guys back o_O. :(. Aww well.
Shadowcran
Staffs...In Oblivion they seem like such a waste of potential. Do they enhance your spell power? Nope, doesn't seem to. Can you use it as a blunt "quarterstaff" when forced to fight up close? Nope(This HAS been fixed with a mod, if someone would kindly give me a link to it, I"ll DL that thing as fast as my squirrel powered, hamster driven dialup can go) Can you 'imbue" the staff with various comforts? You should. One of these could be light, another could be detect life, another could be "featherfall" for those long falls. Why am I using featherfall when I don't think it exists yet? Because I'm using Raistlin Majere's Staff of the Magius from Dragonlance as a guide. This staff could also open some locks, Give a bonus to bashing power, Serve you a Harvey Wallbanger...(j/k). It seemed the staff wasn't "all powerful" but gave some of those perks that are usually a pain in the butt for a D & D Mage to have to remember over something that might save his life(Should I memorize "light" or fireball today?) I detest super powerful weapons and armor and items, but you give me something that's convenient and I'll break down the door getting to it. Otherwise, staffs in Oblivion are going to continue to be the same thing for me...a quick sell.
giskarduk
The system is called "off handed". Normal staffs need both hands and will break if you edit them but there are off handed staffs available on nexus. But I cannot tell you any off hand...sorry for the joke :) Btw if you go to draw a staff from your back and it remains on your back, your looking at the side effect of getting the hands wrong. Thats what I mean by break. It depends on how weapons and staffs are setup but you usually end up with empty hands. Giskard

Lip
Oh :(. Well its just this staff I want to get in the "Off Handed" Version. Thats just the head of the staff couldn't fit it in cause it was to big space so I got as much in as i could.

Aww well.Yes, that was covered in my above explaination on why you can't do this solely in the CS, but need to do some work with nifscope. I even went as far as describing what you need to do. It equips on back because that's where the nif tells the game it should equip. It also probably doesn't make any light because the .nif doesn't have the proper node. I just had a brainstorm, but it is too off topic, so I'll post a new one. As it has been said, there are a few mods on TesNexus that do this, "Defensive Staves" is one of them.
