Does anyone know what this is?

I'm talking about the darker brown texture coming out of the landscape I was editing. You can also see it further up the slope.

I am befuddled by this stuff all the time, both in my maps, and in the skyrim map. It is only texture, you fall right through it.

There are times in the CK where it will surround me, except for the cell I am directly over. I have generated LODs. I think I even remember seeing it when working on New Vegas maps.

 

Would really appreciate any help.
