PlayIdle() question and Normal Attack animations

I have a script that plays the "NormalAttack" animation on button press using PlayIdle() and shoots a light beam at the same angle as the slash. Now when you spam the attack button normally, the player has two animations for normal weapon swings played one after another. Is there any way to tell which swing animation was played? I need to know the direction of the swing, so I know what angle light beam to shoot out.
