StryderOfOblivion
For those off you that haven't played D&D or read any of the DragonLance books, magic is quite different then in most games, including Oblivion. In essence, the Mage has to read a Tome, containing an array of spells, and memorize each of them. However, as soon as he uses it, the memory of how to cast that spell is gone, and he must memorize the spell again. So for those people, who, like me, think magic in Oblivion is to easy, or doesn't have as much "personality" as it should, might like the idea of implementing the above into an Oblivion Modification. If you make a tome for every spell (like in the Spell Tome DLC) then apply a script that teaches you the spell. This is the "Memorizing" part of the spell. Then, you would have to go through every spell script, and edit it so that it deletes the spell after it is used. Nothing to insanely hard, just takes a lot of time. Now, if you want to go into a major D&D style magic system, then you would have to add limitations to how many spells you can know at a time, and the more you level in Intelligence, the more spells you can learn. To balance this out, then you would need to increase the basic power of all spells, or else you will find yourselves having to haul a Battle Axe with you all the time. Then, you would have to make Add-Ons for things like Midas Magic. And perhaps, you can do something like Shadowcran mentioned earlier, in a different topic. Which is to add more flavor to Staffs in Oblivion. Which would be a little harder to do exactly what he said. But if you add a single custom script to a Staff, that adds certain spells, and takes them away when you unequip it. Giving the spells custom animation so that it looks like you are using the Staff to, say, unlock a door, or "throw" a fireball. I'm not sure if this can be done, since I know next-to-nothing about animations and such. So, what do you think?
inkheart449
See that's why there are SCROLLS It would be cool if it came out of books though
StryderOfOblivion
Part of the point is the Role-Playing aspect, as well as the limitations to the number of spells, and the Staffs...More or Less an Overhaul mod.

StryderOfOblivion
Mida's Magic could be a bit to your tastes give it a try click ->here<- Col John Sheppard I'm already using it actually, the idea is more towards D&D fans.
LoginToDownload
It doesn't sound particularly fun... Much harder to be resourceful with one's magic, and it might be a pain to set up. Assuming you couldn't study them in combat, it also might be trouble for longer battles no matter how much you power them up. Besides, I always played Sorcerors anyways. :P
StryderOfOblivion
lol, I always played something closer to an Elder Knight. And the longer battles is a good point, so on the other hand, what would your opinion be on the Staffs? I would only do this to a few to Staffs, and make sure they are a challenge to get, or add a quest and give the Staffs history.
LoginToDownload
You might want to make them torch-staves and forget the animation... It sounds like a great idea aside from that, though. Much easier to give them charges as well.
StryderOfOblivion
It is easier to give them charges, but you can't give multiply effects-of-choice. And I like the idea of that, and it makes a great deal of sense. :thanks:
LoginToDownload
What do you mean you can't give them multiple effects of choice?
