How to install mods on steam version of fallout NV

I recommend you read the entire "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to understand the differences between this game and others you may have experience with; especially if this is your first attempt to mod FNV or it's been more than a year since you last did so.

Among many other things you need to know, it has links to various tutorials on all the major "mod managers" (which you are recommended to choose one and use it to install mods for the game). As far as mods are concerned, it doesn't matter if your version of FNV is from Steam or GOG. Once it is installed on your computer, it's the same for all mods regardless of which web site they come from.

Please take your time to read that article and put it's advice into practice. Attempts to "speed things up" and take shortcuts (even if you have lots of experience with modding games in general) inevitably take you longer than doing things right the first time.

Sorry if this is the incorrect sub forum to post this, i didn't really see any other that would be better.

Is there a tutorial on how to install Nexus mod's on the Steam version of Fallout NV.

Thanks!

hey thank you vary much for getting back to me appreciate it! one other question i had, i know i could correct this with a mod but i was curious to know, Can you move or drag the windowed mode somehow? this seams to be a problem for a tone of people. Is there a fix to this that is not mod or 3rd party program related or is the only way to fix is with a mod or like that zonelock program, thank you!

I'm assuming you do NOT want to use a "fake fullscreen windowed mode", which makes the game look "fullscreen" while being in "windowed mode" so you can still use "<Alt+Tab>". There are a couple of alternatives for that option. In that case, please see the 'Checklist Item #23' entry of the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" article. (Neither affect the number of "active plugins" you have in your load order.)

Therefor I presume your problem is the game window is pinned in the upper left corner of the screen, and you can't move it to the center of the screen.

Found the following but have not tested it:

I had this same problem. While [Alt+]tabbed out of game I right clicked my desk top and opened the screen resolution options. Once there I went to advanced options on the bottom right after resolution and all that. From there I went to monitor and under my refresh rate I had a box ticked that said "Hide modes that this monitor can't display.". Once I unticked that box, I was able to drag my pointer over the top of the window border and move it to center.

This sounds like it is just using "<Alt+Tab>" to get out of the "cursor trapped" game window and into another program/app window. If you do not already have some other program running (even minimized to the task bar) before you launch the game, this can be difficult. You might find it necessary to open Notepad or some other app first, just so you have some other program to tab to. Once you have "escaped" your cursor from the game window, you should be able to use it to grab the game "title bar" and move the window. Then click on the game window or it's icon in the task bar to return to the game.

Yah mine is stuck to the corner like you said and yes i been using another screen to move the fallout screen like you gave with the notepad example. I just want to be able to move it like any other window but yah it wont let me do that. I looked into that resolution thing you gave and i have no opinion to check it its grayed out and wont let me, it also says that if i do there could be hardware damages probably something to do with overheating i assume.

Sounds like you are on Windows 10, which made you need "Administrator" privilege to change hardware settings such as screen resolution.

As for the game window, when you "<Alt+Tab>" out, does the game window have a border with a title bar? (That should be the case if you truly are running the game in "windowed mode".) If not, then the game is starting up in "full screen mode" but at a different resolution (smaller, in the game settings) than your display is set to. (Windows and game screen resolutions are independent of each other.) Make sure you have the game INI (all three) "[Display]" setting "bFull Screen=0". Restart the game and try "<Alt+Tab>" again.

If you do have a title bar you can grab, but you aren't being allowed to drag it then all I can suggest is to try running as an "Administrator" (which I only reluctantly suggest and should not normally be needed to play any game). If that works, then you have some configuration I haven't encountered before. (Which, as I don't use Win10, is entirely possible.) I've not found anything to indicate ought to be the case.

So am I (playing as a normal user account), and I can access the "Screen Resolution | Advanced Settings | List All Modes" button no problem. Something else is coming into play then. Did you get this computer with Windows 7 already installed by the manufacturer? If so, you might need to ask their support about why you can't access that button. But that is a side issue to why you can't move the game window while <Alt+Tabbed> out of the game window.

I don't put much hope into it, but perhaps a screenshot of what it looks like when you have "<Alt+Tabbed>" out of the game and the cursor is outside of the game window, will offer up a clue.
