ShadowLance194
Basically I want to have my sword, when I sheath it, sheath straight down instead of at an angle. Someone told me I could do this with nifskope so I read a bunch of tutorials on nifskope and still have no idea how to. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks! The way the weapon is sheathed is related to the actual rotation of the weapon. If you rotate it downward, the weapon won't look right when worn. A sheath that is pointing streight down would also make the weapon nearly impossible to draw given humanoid physiology, especially if the blade is longer than 2 feet. This also means that any draw/sheathe animations would also not look right.
Jntk
yeah it would be pretty hard to pull out. you would probably needa tweek the animation a bit so it doesn't look odd
ShadowLance194
(I don't care if it would realistically be hard to draw.) So basically I'd have to change the draw animation for all swords in the game to get it to point straight down? Or is there a way to change the draw animation for just my one sword? Not only would it not work well with the current draw animations, it would also not look right when held since the same sort of position and rotation changes are used in both places. So essentially, no matter what you did, it wouldn't look right, and there is no logical reason why you'd want to do something like this. Weapons are simply not worn like that if they are expected to be used.
ShadowLance194
(lol please please stop telling me that I shouldn't WANT to do this) So the orientation of the blade while sheathed is determined by the draw animation? I know changing the rotation of the model itself will change the orientation, but then it would be messed up in the character's hand. If I changed the draw animation, would that change all blades in the game? or only the animation linked to my specific model. I don't know much about animation, only done it once. You are totally not paying any attention. You have to rotate the weapon itself. As this causes ALL the related animations to also be wrong, you would have to fix ALL the weapon animations to work. THEN you would need to fix ALL the weapons in game to have the same rotation as your weapon. There is no way to make it just apply to your weapon without having your weapon held wrong. Animations would need to be changed BECAUSE of the change to the weapon position, not because they affect where and how the weapon is used. Even if the reasoning for such an idea weren't so faulty, the act of doing it is since it requires many, rather complicated changes which will very likely result in several minor issues in almost every area of the game (weapon positions and rotations are modified, so any placed weapon items in game would need to be changed or cause havok issues and possible CTD on cell load). Essentially this simple project of yours is something so filled with fault, asthetics aside, that even those few who are capable of accomplishing it, wouldn't dream of attempting it due to all the other problems it causes. Even creature animations would neeed to be adjusted because you'd have to adjust all weapons, and as some (most) creatures use the same animations for 2 handed weapons as 1 handed weapons... Guess what... You'd have to change 2 hand weapons and animations too... I'm not being overly negative here without reason. This cannot, and should not be attempted. If you wish to continue anyway, ignoring the judgement of someone who actually understands how all of this works, and who has stated very valid points that almost any reasonably intelligent modder could agree with, that is your business. Honestly, this sort of thing is well beyond the capabilities of 99.999% of the known community, and that remaining percent would probably go insane attempting such a mod. And this is true even if the mod idea was something that made sense, so don't take it personally, this is just totally impractical on almost every level. ShadowLance194
So what determines where on your body the weapon sheathes, say if I wanted the weapon to sheathe 10 feet above me instead of on my back? Is the placement hard-coded in or something?

Is the placement hard-coded in or something? Its in the skeleton, is the same for all weapons worn in that position, and is used by all animations for that NPC or whatever. Although rotating/repositioning of the node is slightly less work on one end, it causes more problems on others since it would affect all animations, instead of just weapon related ones. And still, there are only a few, very busy, people around with any understanding of how to alter skeletons like that without breaking the game.
