Varus Torvyn
I have the same problems, and a lot of others do as well. About the only way to eliminate any would be to run Oblivion with only the Unofficial Patches, SI, and the DLCs. I have found a work-around that helps. It's not 100%, but what is? If I'm running a game and I get to a point where I feel I need to load in a save: 1. Open the Console, type "coc testinghall" 2. Load in the save you want after you're in the testinghall. My own saves seem to work better than autosaves (so I disabled autosave).
gandalftw
Me too, same problem..I've searched and searched and found plenty of people with the same problem but no solutions.I'll give the coc testinghall trick a try.Thought maybe using pcb just before loading might help but it didn't.My game just started crashing on loading saves but it has been crashing on exit for some time time now.Of course i've added another 10 mods in the last week.lol Today it crashed on launch,i just installed Enhanced Weather, disabled that and it launched ok.So i have another problem to figure out. @Varus Torvyn, thanks for the tip...1. Open the Console, type "coc testinghall"
MrCooper2006
Please see me my thread about Freezes/Lockups/Crashes ---- I have had this same problem. And i have also fixed it, its purely to do with having an editied INI file, let oblivion make its own. Also to do with your mod list, either your load order is wrong or something isnt compatible. For me "Real Lights" and some of the "Unique Landscapes" cause these crashes. With these disabled the crashes are non existent. Hope this helps. RedRocketTM
I've had the same problem, it's really quite common. At least under WinXP it was exactly the same. ;) Using Vista Ultimate x64 now I only get those crashes while loading a savegame if the game was running more than one hour. But since I installed Oblivion the first time I backup the whole folder and just drag and drop it over the fresh installation, along with edited ini files, the SI adon an all the patches, OBMM plus loading order. (Saves AGES of installing time) So I didn't really expect it to stop sometime, but I can live with crashes while loading a savegame ingame. It's not that often that I have to do it anyway. And as for the CTD's while exiting the game... Who cares? You're exiting anyway, no? ^^
masamune872005
thanks for the help everyone I didnt think it was very serious and as for the CTD on exit it causes my computer to lock up...??? Hope this helps.Actually, using the FCOM Helper utility virtually removes the possibility of crashes due to mod load-order. When Random decided to code this gem of a utility, it was a stroke of genius. Concerning the INI File, it would be difficult at best to go with an unedited one. Reason is, I found a great topic in the "Hardware & Software" subforum on Bethesda about setting things such as threads to 1. This makes for less stuttering with graphics, FPS improvement, and there were some others that made the CPU Load more balanced on Hyper-Threaded and Multi-Core CPUs. MrCooper2006
Yeah I had a thread for that somewhere too, If at first your game wont load or crashes, try FCOM Helper before posting (Even if you dont actually have FCOM)
Varus Torvyn
Yeah I had a thread for that somewhere too, If at first your game wont load or crashes, try FCOM Helper before posting (Even if you dont actually have FCOM)The "FCOM" is just so people will know it load-orders FCOM mods. Random stresses his mod is separate from FCOM itself, as its not a mod dependent on the FCOM mod, rather it's a standalone utility. Check my previous post. I edited in a comment about INI Files. MrCooper2006
Yeah i totally agree, I infact tried all the tweaks available, including all the Threads to 1, changing PreLoadSizeLimit, CellsToLoad and many others. But these tweaks did cause random CTDS and freezes for me, even changing MaxImpactSounds to 64 was causing freezing out in forests when it would try to load several sounds all at once. (I have 24bit Audigy ZS Platinum Pro btw) As it was impossible to tell which tweaks were causing what , i let Oblivion make a new INI and the crashes went away, so I can only imagine it was the tweaks. Sure some ppl will have no problem editing the INI without CTDS, but like me sometimes people edit it and forget they did. Then wonder where the crash is coming from. Only tweaks i have now are BorderRegions and the DarNified UI tweaks (that is does automatically). Also, seems to be a problem that you cant back up your INI for later use, or at least not if youve added mods in the mean time. I tried to go back to my original INI when i had my original mod list up, but it just wouldnt even load Oblivion without either using my edited one or just creating a brand new 1.
