ive recently been having some trouble with my downloads. normally it would be a zipped folder before i install mods or tools for skyrim. about a week ago, i accidentally dropped my mouse and it somehow changed all the files into open with notepad. i use a windows 8.1 setup, and when i originally purchased my laptop, it harassed me to get windows 10. so ill need a troubleshoot/assist with both os just in case.

I know this will work in Windows 10, but I'm not sure about Windows 8.

Right click on a file and point at "Open With." That will open a submenu, at the bottom of that submenu should be "Choose another app." Click that, it will give you a new window with options to select various programs - choose whatever you used to open the files previously. At the bottom of that window, check the box next to "Always use this app..." and that should apply the choice to all files of that type.

You might need to do this for multiple files - some mods are in .zip files, some are in .7z files, some might even be in .rar files. This process will only apply to one type at a time.
