How to make an ENB less bright

JackNitro

Recommended Posts

I've been playing with this ENB setup for a while, so it works well and I've been able to put up with the brightness. I get ~16-25 fps most of the time and 40+ in smaller indoor areas. The problem is how bright it is...

Even nighttime seems ridiculously bright -

Indoor lighting fits my tastes just fine, though -

I'm not sure if i need to edit parameters in the .ini or one of the .fx files or anywhere else, but there's got to be some way to make the sky less bright. I don't want it way darker, just a little bit. The bright sky gives it a kind of fantasy feel that I like. I just don't want to go blind :P

ALSO - I've done a lot to tweak the enbseries.ini to squeeze out more performance, but if anyone has any ideas other than the usual "disable SSAO" or "try the enb injector" (I already did both), feel free to post it. Really. Even if you doubt it'll work. I have an nVidia GT540M with 1GB vram, and I just feel like it should be able to run it at least a little bit better...

EDIT: I forgot to mention that there's also a funky issue with the night shadows where they're actually brighter than the ambient lighting ---

First of all make sure that you have bFloatPointRenderTarget set to 1 in your SkyrimPrefs ini or everything will be much too bright.

For better performance you should use SMAA for antialiasing. It has the quality of 8xMSAA and the performance of FXAA. We use it in our ENB's and it makes a big difference in quality and performance.

Here's a link for SMAA if you want to try it out.

I've actually heard that not having bFPRT set to 1 makes everything black. But yeah, I already have that set.

I never tried SMAA, though. Thanks for the idea, I'll try it...

First, though, my launcher got corrupted, so I have to tweak graphics through the .ini file. I should set bFXAAEnabled=0 and iMultiSample=0, right? is there anything else that needs to be tweaked to disable standard AA and FXAA?

EDIT: another though just occured to me. Before I installed ENB, i tweaked my shadows to look better at a small cost to fps (which was negligible at the time - like 60>55). But now that I have ENB, do I really need to have high quality shadows anymore? Doesn't the ENB handle that? If so, what would I change?

Here are my shadow settings atm:

iShadowMapResolution=2048

fShadowBiasScale=0.2400

iShadowMaskQuarter=4

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=20

fShadowDistance=3000.0000

iAdapter=0

fInteriorShadowDistance=2000.0000

bFloatPointRenderTarget=1

iShadowFilter=4

fShadowLODStartFade=200.0000

bTransparencyMultisampling=0

iShadowMode=4

bTreesReceiveShadows=1

bDrawLandShadows=1

bDrawShadows=1

bShadowMaskZPrepass=1

bMainZPrepass=0

bShadowsOnGrass=1

bDeferredShadows=1

Well, I made the following changes in my SkyrimPrefs.ini:

iPresentInterval=0

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=5

iShadowFilter=2

bDrawLandShadows=0

fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=400.0000

uiMaxSkinnedTreesToRender=20

And the following in my Skyrim.ini:

iMinMemoryPageSize=100000

iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000

iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=1800000000

My framerates seem to have jumped up to ~20-30 fps average. There's room for improvement, but that's a hell of an improvement itself.

However, there's still the matter of the sky brightness. Can anyone who knows there way around enbseries.ini, enbbloom.fx, enbeffect.fx, and/or enbeffectprepass.fx tell me what parameter(s) to change?

Because I was googling about this problem and found this thread, but ended up not finding an answer here I did some messing around and decided to post what worked for me.

-Shift+Enter to open the ENB manager.
-Try toggling off "UseOriginalPostProcessing"

This solved the biggest problem I was having with brightness, but I also turned off Enable Lense because it had some kind of giant fingerprint texture that I could see moving whenever I moved my camera.

Finally, on the right side where it says "Shader Parameters", I found that you can adjust the Gamma directly and that will help a lot. Higher number = darker. Hope anyone else who is searching for a solution is helped by this.

that is not a good idea if you are using an ENB and doesn't make any sense.

some kind of giant fingerprint texture that I could see moving whenever I moved my camera. that is a lens in you skyrim directory you probably have a file called: enblensmask.png

you can change the ENB look by modifying: enbseries.ini

Passing through looking for similar issue.

Turns out decreasing some values under [sKY] category can deal with the overly bright sky. But you either have to fix it in every weather setting or uses the ignore weather option.

- sun intensity

- sun glow intensity

- gradient middle intensity

- gradient horizon intensity

If there's not enough clouds to your liking, tweak the cloud intensity.
