MrCooper2006
To save time messing around, REINSTALL. Then, get the 1.1 patch (UK version is your UK or English version for US) and then apply the 1.2 patch. If this doesnt work, youre either using a downloaded copy of the game (torrent or D2D) or a CD CRACK. Cd cracks are fine but ONLY after youve installed eveything/patch everything
piratemuffin
I'm not using a crack or a downloaded version. Do you think it could have something to do with my mods. If i reinstall does it delete my save files?
MrCooper2006
Oh sorry didnt realize you were using mods. Hmmm it should really be patched before any Mods are put on. I dont think patching after will work.. at all really. If i were you id reinstall then patch the game, check its working. and ONLY then start to add mods. With regards to your saves. They should be in My Documents/My Games/Oblivion. You can just take them out of there before reinstall and back them up, alltho uninstalling doesnt delete this folder. It is wise to delete this yourself and keep ONLY the saves from it Hope tht helps
piratemuffin
Thanks a lot. Is it possible to put my mods in a separate folder and then place them back in afterwards?
bben46
A reinstall does not delete your mods, data folder or saved games. If you want to get rid of them, you have to do it yourself. Reasons for a failed patch are those listed by Cooper. And,If you have the Game of the Year version, it is already patched. If you aren't sure, on the opening screen of the game, where you select Continue, Load etc. look in the lower left corner and it shows your patch version number. If you already patched to 1.2 before installing Shivering Isles, then tried to apply the SI patch. If you already have a 1.2 patched Oblivion, you must reinstall to patch to the 1.2 SI. There are 2 English language versions of the Oblivion patch one for UK and one for US versions of the game. You MUST use the right one. There is only ONE English version of the SI patch that works for both.
MrCooper2006
Depends which mods you have, if they are JUST .esp/esm files then yes. But they probably wont be, if theyve copied anything else into the DATA Folder they can be very hard to find every file. FCOM/VWD etc, and very time consuming to delete every file. In all honestly would be quick to completely reinstall oblivion n download your mods at same time!
MrCooper2006
Oh yeah Bben forgot about that DELETE YOUR BETHESDA DIR in program files - EVERY TIME you reinstall. or theres no point reinstalling
bben46
The easiest way is to rename your data folder to something else (oldata) and your saves too. Then reinstall and a new data and saves will be created. I would rename or erase the Oblivion.ini file also and allow the reinstall to re create it too. Copying a big data folder can take a long time but renaming only takes a second. Edit: If you delete the Bethesda Softworks directory, then you must first rename the data folder using another directory; Such as original; Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data. New: C:\Backup\Oldata Only rename the data part of the path. I think this will work, I haven't actually tried it though. If it doesn't, then create the new directory C:\whatever and copy the \data directory into it.
