Attempting to make a simple mod

My first attempt to make a mod for Oblivion was meant to be a very simple one, that couldn't possibly go wrong. As it happens, it can't seem to go right.

 

I'm trying to add a female model to the Cuirass of the Crusader. I didn't want to do anything too complicated, so I extracted the female Knights of the Nine Cuirass from the BSA, placed it in Data\Meshes\Armor\NDPelinal\F\NDCuirass.nif, and then used the construction set to have each of the Cuirass' ten entries point to this file for the female .nif

 

I try to save that to a new file, and the Construction Set crashes. If I try to save it to another file (like the Unofficial Knights of the Nine patch), it saves fine, but Oblivion itself crashes just as the into video finishes.

 

What's going on? Why won't it work? Why is it crashing? :wallbash:

 

I would greatly appreciate any advice given.
