Blender 2.49b VS 2.5 or newer?

Hey everyone, new modder here, Skyrim finally broke me down enough to try my hand at it, and I have a few questions. From what I've gathered I have all the programs I need(Blender/Python/Pyffi/Nifskope/Gimp) but I seem to have run into a bit of a wall. I started learning to model with Blender 2.63, I finished my first model only to find out that there is no compatible version of nifscripts just yet. So, I downgraded to 2.49b and in my opinion it is vastly inferior to 2.63 both visually and control wise, and I absolutely hate it.

So, the questions,

1. Is there an alternate method of converting my models into nif format? One that would obviously allow the continued use of 2.63?

2. I have discovered that I can export as .obj in 2.63 to get my model into 2.49b and into nif format from there, however, if I make a uvmap for the model in 2.63 can it still

be used with the nif from 2.49b?

3. Lastly, any word if the nifscripts for 2.5+ will be available soon? All I can find is a post from Amorilia(the person who made the scripts?) on sourceforge forums, but

his/her last post was on Dec 2nd, 2011, and there hasnt been any other activity in the post since Feb, 20th.

Ok, Im going to head off and tinker around to see if I cant at least answer #2 for myself, thanks to everyone in advance!
