kevkiev
Can you do the whole Dawnguard thing on your own time? Or, more specifically, can you ignore it completely until you want to play it? I bought a couple of the FO3 and all the FONV DLCs and, since they all occurred in world spaces separate from the main game, you could just do them when you wanted to. Until then, you could ignore them except for the journal entry in you pipboy. Which seemed especially reasonable when starting a new game. In FONV, for example, I always waited 'til a certain point before going to the Sierra Madre. But, from what I can tell about Dawnguard (could be wrong), it starts with vampires attacking Whiterun or some other place. That implies to me that you might not be able to avoid the DLC when playing the main game. At least that one event anyway. Is that the case? Are there more attacks that happen even if you don't pursue joining the vamps or the Dawnguard? Can you even avoid pursuing one or the other, or are you eventually roped into in an NPC dialogue that ends up forcing your hand? Since you can't uninstall DLCs on steam and save 'em for later, I'm especially curious about this in the event of starting a new game. Again, with any FONV DLC, you could always just avoid going to the entrance to a DLC's world space until you wanted to play the DLC but, yeah, I'm curious how that all works with Dawnguard. DaedalusMachina
Okay, whatever negativity you've heard about Dawnguard is mostly bull. As far as DLC is concerned, it's not as epic as, say, Shivering Isles, and it promised no such thing. And no, it doesn't begin with vampire attacks, it begins when you want it to begin, but it's easier to find if you've actually been told where it is (A guard fills you in if you're level 10 or better) Yes, you can do it on your own time, but once you get into it, vamps start attacking some cities at random, as well as vampire ambushes in the wild (or Dawnguard, if you sided vampire). (Windhelm and Riften seemed to be the biggest targets so far of city raids). Dawnguard also adds things beyond the questline of Dawnguard, and you can go visit those things whenever you want, and still not be "involved" in Dawnguard. kevkiev
Okay, whatever negativity you've heard about Dawnguard is mostly bull... Yeah, I edited out the first "lack of excitement" bit from my post. I'll try to keep an open mind. And, especially since it seems you can do it on your own time, who am I kidding - I'll probably end up buying it. Though I'll probably wait for a while at least to let the Nexus texture mod gurus catch up to the new meshes/textures it'll bring in. Thanks for the reply! DaedalusMachina
Actually, what I like about Dawnguard more than the actual quest line is the things they seemed to add that make the whole experience a little nicer. Crossbows are nice (Modders, plan on doing a mod that allows the advanced crossbow stuff to be done on the outside of Dawnguard - currently you can only get this stuff through the actual Dawnguard faction IF you join them), and mounted combat really lets you travel around without having to get off your horse every time you see an enemy. The usual complaints that I've heard ("It's just a few glitchy caves and junk we've already seen") _really_ rings hollow.
