EliasAfre
So i finished the 3rd quest, dampered spirits and then go back to mercer frey to get the next quest but the dialog doesn't pop up, he just tells me to leave cause he's busy...Any ideas on how i could fix this through commands or something :)? kevkiev
Might be interesting to go into console and type: sqs TG03 to see if the game recognizes that you've done dampened spirits (though it seems you have the journal that indicates it is, so maybe this is off base). You'll get a list of the various stages, and completed ones will have "1" beside them. The last stage is 200. If, by some chance, you have a zero beside 200 (ie game doesn't recognize the quest as complete) you can complete the whole quest through console by typing: setstage TG03 200 Anyways, if the game does recognize the 3rd quest as done and you're facing glitch only in scoundrel's folly, you should be able to skip the first part of that quest (ie speaking to Mercer) by typing while in console: setstage TG04 10 which should mark that stage as complete and trigger the next stage of the quest

kevkiev
Dang. Out of curiosity, what do you get when you type sqs TG04 Maybe the game thinks you've completed part of that quest already? (Kinda graspin' here.) If so, you should be able to type resetquest TG04 to clear all stages. Fwiw, I have a lot of trouble with companion quests and find that quite often entering Jorvasskr will for some reason mark the first stage of certain quests complete so I can't trigger them. (i.e. even if I clear all stages to zero prior to entering) It's kind of hit and miss, but sometimes I can use the reset quest thing inside Jorvaskkr to make things right. If possible, try that out at a point before the save where you did the other console commands. Dunno if I'm just a worrywart, but I try not to stack console commands on top of each other. kevkiev
Ok, so much for that. I'm out of ideas except a couple: 1. go back to a save where you've just completed the 3rd quest and go to the Cistern with your fingers crossed that Mercer's dialogue triggers this time. (Make sure it's a save prior to entering all the above console commands.) I had something similar happen to me with the "Discerning the Transmundane" or whatever it's called where I couldn't trigger the appropriate dialogue when I brought back the various types of elf blood. I just went to a save made right after harvesting the last of the blood and it worked on my second attempt. Alternatively, go back to that point and return to the Cistern after 30 days, which I believe is the max reset time in skyrim. You can use this mod to alleviate the boredom a little (it allows you to select up to 31 days without having to constantily hit "wait for 24 hours" - go have some coffee while it counts down). I dunno the intricacies, but whenever I try to reset the game I go to a non-respawning interior cell (not the one I'm focusing on resetting) to do the waiting. This is a list of the various non-respawning cells. or, 2. go back to a save before you even completed the last stage of the 3rd quest (or even earlier), re-complete that/those stage(s) and cross your fingers that quest 4 starts this time. Maybe even do the 30-day wait thing as part of this. Good luck. p.s. this might be a dumb question but it's been ages since I did that quest, by any chance are you supposed to talk to Brynjolf first? edclist
A problem I frequently encounter is a failure to play dialog scripts. The NPCs will stand there making arm gestures but no lip movements. If you click on them they are busy. Had that problem with a few of the TG quests as well as others. Usually if I just leave the room and come back it will update my quest status and I am able to talk to the next person I need to. You miss out on a lot of dialog but you can fill in the blanks with available info.. It happened in the cistern a few times.
