so i f***ed with raul a while back and now he's bit broken

before I begin thanks a bunch for reading, takes a while to explain the situation

 

so essentially I looked to the fallout wiki to help me with 'Old school ghoul' because I had spoken to the last guy, pretty sure it was Corporal sterling, and the other two once more to make sure they were all spoken to with Raul in my party. and Raul simply wouldn't initiate the final bit of conversation, I figured this was because I had spoken to sterling for the first time before getting Raul as a companion (thought I'd do things a little differently this playthrough) thus I used some code found as a so-called 'fix' found in the wiki's Bugs section of the old school ghoul quest page.

 

safe to say things got a bit f***ed.

 

so after I had full maintenance, I kept Raul around for a nice long while, eventually swapping for Boone and everyone else for their quests, and much much later decided to get him back, problem was, when I recruited him into my party, everything works as normal except i get the full maintenance pop up twice and then I'm stuck there in a conversation like screen with no options and the game is kinda frozen except the game is running and the radio works and so on.

 

so the question is, can I fix this painful bug now without having to go back three dlc's and a bundle of quests because I'm way past the point of no returning to fix it... if not ill just continue on but it will hurt knowing I can still never have Raul around.

Gonna assume the issue is there is two ways to get the full maintence perk and the code you used has either set both flags to true so they are both firing & or messed up the condition checks.

 

If you are stuck in empty dialogue window this mod may bypass that. https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/59257 Otherwise you'll need to undo what you done through console.

awesome, a bit of an issue though, when I try installing the mod config menu for that mod to work through its own installer through the nexus it tells me there's an error, specifically stating "an exception occurred in the script

Raul's Quest Script (VDialogueRaulSCRIPT) just consists of a bunch of variables used to track key people related to Raul whom the Player has talked to and the progress of Player responses to Raul that make him think he should be a "repair-guy" or "gunslinger". Everything else seems to be driven by the dialog with other NPCs and the Player. (I was not able to find a specific "Quest Script" labelled "Old School Ghoul" with "quest stages".) Which implies obtaining "Full Maintenance" is a result of "ticking" the correct dialog "checks" in the progess down the "repair-guy" persuasion track for Raul.

Breaking down your "problem statement", it appears you have managed to actually get down that track to the point where Raul had obtained the ability to grant the "Full Maintenance" companion Perk. Where I get slightly confused is the part of your statement:

I take it from this you are getting hung up in the dialog with Raul (who has at this point given you the "Full Maintenance" companion Perk). Are you forgetting (from [http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Raul_Tejada The Vault] wiki):

 

He is a very competent repairman, but will only offer repairs at his shack, and even then will not offer a discount. He must first be dismissed as a companion ("for the best") before repairs can be done.

Also (from the [http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Full_Maintenance Perk] page):

 

However, if you convinced him to revert to his gunslinger ways but changed your mind, you will need at least 66 Speech to get Full Maintenance.

* Did you "part ways" ("It's for the best") first, before asking him to "repair"?
* What line of dialog (and with whom) is causing you to get hung?
* Is this particular dialog the only place where you are having any problems? (Meaning: is it possible this is a consequence of other issues unrelated to Raul or this Perk?) In which case, Please provide ALL the information requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article. Don't forget to identify things that do not appear in the "load order", such as if you are using a "regional language version" of the game; using the FNV4GB Patch, NVSE and it's related plugins; replacements for textures (specifically their larger image sizes: 1024x1024, etc.), animations, or "bodies", etc.; and "post-processors" like ENB or SweetFX. It saves us playing "20 questions" and gets you a more specific answer more quickly. (The usual turn-around on post and reply in an older game forum is 24 hours.)

Edit: Got "ninja'd" by aghjax. That seems reasonable as well. As for the "exception occurred in the script" error, Please see the "MCM" section in the wiki "HUD-UI-Menu issues" article.
