InvalidUsername
So it all started when I removed the Realistic Lighting With Customization mod, and added the Climates of Tamriel mod. It was all going fine until I tried to enter a building. It seems that EVERY time I enter a building or exit a building (tried on multiple saves), the game will either instantly crash to desktop with no error, or freeze with a black screen after loading (the door noise sounds, but no character movement sound or anything) and I will need to ctrl alt del to bring up the task manager. I removed the new mod and replaced with the old one, and it is STILL doing it! I've had luck a couple times when removing both of them, but then if I change anything (add one back) it starts happening again, then I'm not sure how to get rid of it again. Even removing both now seems like it doesn't work, I'm just not sure what to do. Leaving the Realistic Lighting mod makes it WAY too dark at night and inside, so I wanted to change. At the moment neither mods are present, and everything is working, but I'm afraid to add the mods back, I don't want any more crashes! Yet the standard lighting sucks, and I want to replace it. Thanks for any input. Edited July 21, 2012 by InvalidUsername
InvalidUsername
So it seems to still be doing it, even though I got to a point where it was working, and upon starting it up the next day it does it again. At this point I'm not sure what the hell is wrong, does anyone recommend any troubleshooting procedures? (looking up error codes, logs, anything) Edited July 22, 2012 by InvalidUsername
blitzen
You know that you can customize realistic lighting and make the night as bright or as dark as you want, independently of the days? You can adjust brightness, saturation, contrast, etc. independently for day, dawn, dusk, night, interiors, caves and so on. It's so adjustable that you really don't need another lighting mod except for fancier visual effects, such as ENB post-processing. I'm using both of those mods right now without any crashing, so there must be another mod that factors into this problem. I had even disabled RL to try CoT alone, and had no crashing then either. InvalidUsername
I'm not sure what other mod it would be, because it started when I removed the first realistic lighting mod that I had, I hadn't changed anything else. Could it be video drivers? Because I installed a new one right before the problem started... Edit: Nope, rolled back drivers, same thing. InvalidUsername
I think I've singled it out to be Domaine Alucard from the Steam Workshop. Language mismatch maybe? Not sure.
blitzen
Try turning on Papyrus logging. That may provide some information that is related to the crash. Or it might not. I don't believe RL removal is causing this. It does nothing but adjust graphics values using the game's existing functionality. It doesn't introduce any special processing, doesn't cause a performance drop, and doesn't place scripts into the save file. It's a very safe mod.
