Ren's hair mod

I've used this wonderful mod before on a previous Computer, and had trouble with it. I did manage to get it working.

Now I have a new computer I just can't get the damn thing working. I am pretty good at knowing where what goes where in the Data files. I would be very happy for any suggestions. Maybe someone out there has done something I haven't thought of trying.

Thank-you for your time and patience.

Try having it load near the end, but actually, it would help to know a little more, like if you have other beauty mods installed, (I would guess you do) and are you using other hair packs? Are you using a custom race? Custom head? --Beth head, Renhead or Corean head or something else? are you going to add eyes too?

The simplest way for me to get the hair I want every time, is to use the CS. If you want to try that, it's really not that hard, and there's a great example file around here somewhere, and you can add eyes and even ears with earrings at the same time.

Myrmaad, I have "Natural Faces" mod, but I like playing around with CS, and am interested in how I would go about doing the hair with that. I also have another hair mod called Beautiful hair, but that isn't working either.

Here's my quick and dirty "how to do hair" guide:

:D

Shoot, I don't use natural faces, I went with IFT (improved facial textures I think) - but in the end for my character I put in a custom facial texture.

If you have a custom race for your character only your character and any NPCs of the same custom race will be affected. I ended up customizing the entire breton race.

Open CS and load the Oblivion master (esm) and then set your hair mod (esp) as the active file.

Now this is actually easier in TES4Gecko I heard, because you can copy and paste the contents of one mod to another, but we'll do it from scratch.

The beauty pack in this example is Corean hair plus Elaborate Eyes, but we're going to add stuff from other beauty packs to it, so it doesn't matter which one you use, just as long as it loads last in your list of beauty mods, whichever one loads last will over-ride the ones above it.

So in this example I'm going to add Soya hair to the mod:

NOTE: If you use a custom race, open its esp in the CS in addition to Oblivion.esm, but still set your beauty mod as the active file. Otherwise you won't see your race in the list to modify.

So at the top menu, click on character, choose race and highlight the race you want to customize (add hair to) in the list..

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/Image03.jpg

Click Body Data from the Race menu and move the race menu to the right by grabbing it's top menu bar if you can.

Then again click Character from the top menu, this time choose hair and when the hair box opens, grab it and move it to the left like so: (now you have room to work)

Click in the hair box as shown and right click and choose "NEW"

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/Image04.jpg

Type the name of the hair you want to put in, we'll type Soyastyle2 in this example, and click ok.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/Image05.jpg

Now we have to type Soyastyle2 again in the main hair box, and click "playable" so that you can get it later.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/Image06.jpg

To add the Mesh we click the Add Nif radio button, and browse to the matching hair mesh file in our data folder.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/Image07.jpg

We do the same thing to add the matching texture (image file radio button).

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/Image08.jpg

At this point I click ok on the hair box, and just open it up again so that I know it's really saved.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/Image09.jpg

Find it in the new list and drag it over to the race box, dropping it into the hair box. On my system if you drop it anywhere else by accident, the CS will crash, just be forewarned and be careful to get it into the hair window in the race body data dialog box.

Ahh crap foiled by the pic limit, see next post.

Now we see that our new style has been added to the Breton Body Data tab, as shown:

We can check it by opening up any Breton character (I made it male and female playable) and by previewing the head (by checking the box) and selecting Soyastyle2 from the Drop-down selection box we see our new hair on this NPC. Voila!
