idiotsru
I have been studying on how to script NPCs and Bethesda's wonderful radiant AI. Because of all the random stuff going on in skyrim I kept thinking to myself what if Skyrim was not always about the player. What would happen if there were other adventurers throughout Skyrim besides bandits and dead bodies? I get that Skyrim is a hostile world but wouldn't it be more challenging if other adventurers got the loot before you did? I had a vision where every adventurer had different behaviors and activities. Instead of every adventurer randomly jumping into dungeons and forts clearing the way. Because it is important that they have a motive. Usually during minor quest like killing a leader, clearing a dungeon, or retrieving an item. What are things that can make Adventurer NPCs unique? - They all act diferently towards the player.- They can trust, deceive, or betray the player.- Well won't it be fun if you had NPCs that could rival your skills, good enough to give you a good fight. (Well not everything needs to be done as long as the top 3 traits are fullfilled that is all I wish) These are some minor things I wish to include but it could make adventurers seem more livelier. - Adventurers usually take their time exploring dungeons by walking and being fully aware of traps and ambushes.- Some adventurers can hint possible stronger enemies in upcoming fights.- Usually can be found stuck between traps or at the front entrance.- Magic users can detect life and heal.- Some can offer up potions if asked.- Stealth users will likely rob you by shooting a paralysis arrow or they can accompany the player, plus they have the ability to pick certain locks.- They all have personalities. For example - a. A jubilant NPC can be friendly, sometimes they can be dimwits. b. Brash NPCs will likely head into trouble and get in heated situations. c. Quiet NPCs can be shady and hard to predict. d. Cocky NPCs like to make up for their cowardice. e. Charming or suave NPCs try to talk their way to victory. f. Greedy NPCs will likely wander off.- They can be in one or more guilds.- Some like to pose as imposters(soldiers, the dovahkiin, assassins).- Hostile NPCs usually travel in groups no greater than 4.- At the end of every minor quest or if their goal is met. Wouldn't it be cool if they had a conclusion. a. Betray the player. b. Reward the player with gold, a rare item, or a level up a skill. c. Commit suicide(free loot) d. Offer up services in towns to trade powerful items or resources.- Sometimes they are found as prisoners in dungeons and request an escape or to loot the player. Overall, It would be awesome if there were NPCs out there behaving like a player. I can not say for sure that this can be done but it was just something I have had on my mind recently. As of now I am practicing modding by scripting and dialogue but I am going on and off about it. It would be cool if somebody transformed my Idea into an actual mod but if anybody has anything to add please share your thoughts. Come to think of it I may like to hear some peoples approach on how to expand the NPCs mind and willpower. What else can be done to make them more human?
