legs0fsteel
hello i bought skyrim off steam like 20 mins ago downlaoded and installed it along with the free HQ texture pack.i did the auto hardware detect thing and it set it on high.i start the game and the frame-rate is smooth as butter and everything looks amazibg. but after i named my character there is that scene wher the executiober chops the guys head off and there is a big red rectangle instead of the blood effect.and after that you get up and those fireballs fall from the sky but instead fire tehy are red boxes with 2d rock shapes in them. is there a way to fix this?please respond -legs0fsteel
fms1
In Steam there's a verify game cache function somewhere (it's been a while since I've had Steam set to online), try this first, because it's a couple of clicks easy and may work.
ginnyfizz
The nasty big reds sound like missing meshes, and I think that fms1's suggestion is an excellent starting point. I am at work right now so can't open Steam to do you a walkthrough, but you will need to (I think) launch Steam and pull up your games library, right click on Skyrim and click Properties on the subsequent pop-up...something like that. Yep and Steam has to be online to do that.

iquitous
Had this problem because I mistakenly install the XP32 maximum skeleton SPECIAL edition, rather than the XP32 maximum skeleteon edition. Not even sure what special was for, but once I realized that was it and swapped it for the other one the boxes went away.
