Replacing stock armors on my own

So Suppose I want to replace the way the leather armor looks.

I found a mod with some cool armor, but it is a standalone, just placed in the game as its own armor set

how would I take that armor and make it so that my leather armor looks like that?

Vanilla leather armor is stored in the following path:

Data\Meshes\Armor\Thief\

(yes, Thier, not Leather)

Within that directory there are two folders, "F" and "M", their purpose should be obvious.

Assuming you already have a stock replacer, navigate to that folder and take a look inside, you will see several files:

Boots.nif

Cuirass.nif

Gloves.nif

Greaves.nif

Helmet.egm

Helmet.nif

You need to replace these files with the the appropriate ones from the mod armor. At the very least, the mod armor needs to be divided into Boots/Cuirass/Gloves/Greaves. Copy the mod files into the folder, then change their names as necessary.
