Game always starts in smaller-than-screen borderless window.

So here I am, trying out FO4 on the new gaming laptop.

After downloading 200+ mods and sorting them out, I start the game and... And can't make it play in a proper window size/resolution.

I gave up and deleted it already, but I hope that someone has found a solution which I may use to play Sim Settlements + Conqueror, and enjoy this buggy yet amazing game again.

Any help is appreciated.

1) I tried various combinations of FallotPrefs ini file, which should work, but no matter what I do, it is always windowed borderless smaller than a screen.

2) I tried reinstalling NVidia drivers.

3) I tried launching the game from NVidia experience as fullscreen.

4) I tried changing screen resolution to anything from 1280 to 1920 and various heights (my screens are 16:9 each).

5) I tried to disconnect one of monitors.

6) I tried to run the game in compatibility mode settings where DPI is changed from Application to System.

7) I tried running with various ENB in case it does something.

Still it starts a window which ALWAYS seems to be 1280x720, with low res dispay (if I change my screen resolution to 1280x720, it's still unplayable, because the window is offset).

There's always a window header saying Fallout.

It is never fullscreen.

If it matters, my graphical card is GeForce 1050 Ti (and the game says it does not detect the hardware when I reset INI settings), I have Windows 10 64bit and I think I tried everything I could google.

Any tip (that I hasn't tried yet) is highly appreciated.

I am just wondering why would it completely ignore Fullscreen setting and go to window.

And yes, I tried to restart PC multiple times, deleted/reinstalled NVidia drivers and reinstalled FO4 3 times.

I fixed it by myself, hopefully it will help someone else.

If you use OneDrive, you can select it to save your Documents to OneDrive (right click cloud icon in bottom right -> settings -> autosave -> protect documents).

That changes document path from c:\users\<username>\documents to c:\users\onedrive\documents.

The game INI files and saves are saved there just fine, but Fallout4 cannot load it from that folder and defaults to whatever.

I figured it out hard time by running Process Monitor and seeing the game trying to load INI from default location and failing with "file not found".

Hopefully it helps someone else in the same situation.

To clarify: you need to stop protecting your Documents in OneDrive and re-launch the game launcher settings.

Hi

My Son had to reinstall Windows to get rid of the Onedrive issue. With the time it took to find and fix the problem he didn't even want to look at the game anymore.

I have had resolutions problems with this game from day one.

I play at 4k. If I set the display to widowed mod the game will load in the upper left corner of the screen at 1920 X 1080. On Windows 7 the game would only load in at 1920 X 1080 without the monitor driver.

Sometimes I feel that if I even breath on the settings the game will no longer load properly.

In a way Skyrim is worse since it loads a 1920 X 1080 screen first, then loads a 4k screen. The 1920 X 1080 screen disappears when I click on it most of the time. If it does not the game will load into the top left corner at 1080p. It also won't load in with a windowed mode.

I feel lucky very time these games load because I know one day they will not.
