Resetting Characters

Hi!

You know those bugs that cause Megaton characters to fall into new cells and die? Well, it's happened to Nathan Vargas and Lucas Simms. I also found out the ATT mod (the phone one) doesn't work out with the True Peace mod for Tenpenny Tower.

In short, I need to reset a couple of characters to get the dialogue back on track. I need to reset both Lydia Montenegro and Anthony Ling so that I can access the dialogue options to advance the ATT quest AND I need to reset Nathan and Lucas Simms. With them it's a bit more complicated: Lucas Simms has literally fallen off the edge of the Earth, and when I resurrect both of them, the dialogue choices for the Stalhs, Harden Simms and Maya Vargas remain as though they were still dead. This poses a problem that I do not know how to fix. Honestly, I have some idea what might work, but...you guys probably know much better than I how to get the game on track. Please help.

Little help? I mean in this case, resurrection command won't be enough. I tried. I tried resetting Ling, and not only did he not appear back in the store, when I moved to his location (moveto player command has never worked for me) after I killed a bunch of raiders, there was still the Ling in Exile dialogue with no speech options. So, I'm not being lazy, I really don't know how to fix this.

In cases with NPC's that are part of Quests you always have to worry about Quest Variables that are set when the NPC dies or some other major event occurs in the Quest that makes the NPC change routines called Packages in the GECK. This allows the Quests to continue without the NPC or the NPC's to run the proper packages.

For example. In Lings case there are a couple of Quest Variables set when he is in exile from Tenpenny. These Variables tell Ling to run his Wander The Wastes Package. No matter what commands you do to Ling these variables will not change. In his case you have to reset the Variables to have him run his normal Tenpenny Packages. You will need to do the following in the Console while inside Tenpenny.

prid 0017A04
moveto player
set FreeformTenpenny.AnthonyLeave to 0
set MS12.AL to 0

Leave the console and when Ling shows up go back into the console and click on him so you see his reference name at the top then type the following.

kill
resurrect
disable
enable

This should reset his AI and send him back to his normal Tenpenny routines. His dialog may or may not completely reset.

The reason for this is all the other Variables that might have been reset by previous actions like your interaction with Roy. If this is the case then you have to look in the GECK and find all the variables for the dialog that causes this to occur.

On another note. Questions like this might be better posted in the Fallout 3 Technical Support section. You would get better views by people who might be able to help. Plus, this section frowns on any kind of spoilers. So that sometimes limits what you can say in here about a problem and its solutions.
