Masque of Clavicus Vile and getting the reward question

I've only ever killed Barbas, but next play through I want the Masque of Clavicus, how is this done? do I leave the cave with axe in hand and barbas follows and gives me the mask or how do I return the axe to Clavicus Vile and how is that done?

 

there is a trophy room museum in the levelers tower mod that has a place for the mask

 

never mind, I watched a youtube video walkthrough for the quest and figured it out
