Need for iron ore

I am a huge skyrim fan like everyone else. I just have a few questions on some things I never did. I am a collector so I never used materials to use in smithing. Is there another use of ore besides selling them or should you convert them to ingots as soon as you can. Thanks for the help if you reply.

Not really. Iron ore and corundum ore can be combined into steel ingots, but you can't combine iron ingots and corundum ingots the same way. Also, the Transmute Mineral spell turns iron into silver and silver into gold, but it only works on ores.

Other than that, I'm pretty sure ores are only good for selling or being turned into ingots.

I think it will bring more $ as ingots, but I'm not sure.

It seems to vary depending on the material. For example iron is worth more as ingots (1 ore with base value 2 become one ingot with base value 7) but gold isn't. (Two ores with base value 50 becomes one ingot with base value 100.)

Gold weighs the same regardless if it's in ore or ingot shape, so its worth more in terms of weight but the same in terms of the material you need to dig up.

Iron ingot + leather strip + lesser or higher soul gem + banish = 2000 septims

There is absolutely no need to make, find, or steal a single septim in the game, once you realize this. You'll be as arbitrarily rich as you like, dependent only on how much patience you have to fast-travel from merchant to merchant to clean them out of money and goods. Refine all your ore and turn it into daggers.
