Castles: Remember Seaview, Almgard

Hello,

I'm not going to get lost here in superlatives about Skyrim and its modding community. I only wish I was good at modding, in order to make a contribution.Instead, I'll make simply a request here:

So far, my only disappoitement concerning Skyrim mods are Player abodes: I can find none that suit me.

(Some seem like skyrim versions of modern-day villas)

On the other hand, I have been a ferocious Oblivion player, and I was really happy with some fantastic castles that appeared back in 2009, namely castle Seaview:

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/25574

or castle Almgard:

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/14834

These castles were beautifully designed, with great detail, complete with perks and household, incredibly well documented (realistic), and still blending seamlessly in the Oblivion lore. Sadly, I don't think Centurion, or mr.Siika still mod for the Elder Scrolls, as I didn't see any mods by them for Skyrim.

My question is this: Does anyone have a project to bring to Skyrim a realistic medieval-like castle, complete with walls, dungeon,

drawbridge, towers, defenses, and so on? To me it would seem a more fitting prize for a champion and lord than a...villa.

I willingly went through hours of the most demonic, hair-pullingly obscure questing to get my hands on Glenvar Castle (http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/8235) and I LOVED it. The place was magnificent- a huge castle completely surrounded by high walls, upon which stood battlements that were actually patrolled by guards. It was accented by stables, a pond, an indoor garden of magical reagents, and a little farm. A dozen or so servants that had fully implemented schedules, a large dining room and kitchen area, great bedroom, huge entrance lobby...It was so cool.

But the best part was the huge courtyard. Just a nice, wide open beautiful courtyard with stone paths and a few trees with stone seats underneath to rest. The courtyard was so big that I literally placed Emma's beautiful Red Rose Manor right next to the stables. This way I had not only a giant castle with a huge courtyard full of wandering companions, but I had an awesome guest house for my personal army as well. It was the best home I could possibly have asked for.

I won't knock some of the efforts that have been made for Skyrim, but for me simply nothing has topped Glenvar in terms of realistic castles that are not only functional but realistic, large, and still cozy as well.

Yes, quite, I had forgotten about Glenvar castle. It was something indeed, and with its own feel.Come to think of it, there were simply tons of great castle mods made for Oblivion:

Dormrose, Wolfspike, Knightstone(which was beautiful), even Highrock and Volengrad(although it was not finished, it was very spectacular).Strangely nothing approaching was made for Skyrim.

Of course there is Deus Mons, which is great but it has too much of a fantasy feel to it, more like the retreat of a mage; It doesn't feel like normal people would live in it.

So I am hoping for something like these Oblivion castles.

There are lots of castle mods did u search the nexus at all before posting? try searching "castle" or "fort" or u could go through all the player home and only look at the ones that might interest you

yes, there is a lot on nexus, the reason its hard to port stuff over is u got t oadd collision from vanila to all your meshes u make, i did for mine, its time consuming and u have to make it for yourself as u don`t get your 15 min fame with architecture, reason there isn`t a lot of custom stuff

I am a nexus veteran, believe me, I looked and searched. Also I didn't say there are no castle mods, I just say I found none with the "feel" of these Oblivion castle mods. They felt alive, and the player felt more than just the proprietor of a house. But perhaps I'm putting too much thought into it, @mjy is right: you don't get the same number of endorsements as for a skimpy female armor

(which is alright by the way, its not like I never download those)

Still, there were many of those mods made for Oblivion;

This one kinda sounds like what your looking for.

Yes, although clearly a work in progress, this is definetly a shove in the right direction and a very nice effort by mjy. Thanks for the tip,@TheLoveDrug.

The island outside Skyrim is an interesting location solution; for of course, lore purists will say:

an european medieval castle doesn't quite fit in a northern setting like Skyrim, as Whiterun does.

To that I reply, yes, there are no viking castles, but it is open to interpretation, as these castles can be found in Norway and Finland.

Sometimes, bigger isn't better. There are some things about Glenvar that I just really love, although, it was kinda large too.

The changing guards, with shifts, and castle inhabitants going to the bathing chambers was just a great touch. I think, bar none, the secret chamber in the castle with the flowing water and the pedistals for your armors and weapons was amazing.

I like the Vjarkell castle, but its just HUGE.... I don't want to run around that much...

And I also always wanted a castle where the access to my secret area was a floor that open opened to create stairs....

I don't know if this is exactly what you mean but I am making a mod called Highfell that adds the complete area of Highrock and Hammerfell it will have its own player house castles one in each kingdom, they come from as north as Scottish inspired castles and as south as Spanish inspired castles.

Here is the link to the progress forum if you are interested:
