Vortex failing to load masterlist

When I start up Vortex I get an error saying that the masterlist has failed to load. When I click on more it says "yaml-cpp: error at line 1, column 3: unknown escape character"

I have seen others with similar issues and have tried their solutions but none of them work. I've tried:

1. Deleting the masterlist and restarting vortex

2. Deleting the masterlist, purging mods and deploying

3. Deleting the masterlist folder and restarting vortex

4. Uninstalling and reinstalling vortex

Any help would be much appreciated
