GooeyGungan
I'm a veteran from the olden days of Oblivion, and back in those days, I almost always used Wrye Bash (with a small amount of OBMM). I've now got the urge to start modding Skyrim, and I was wondering what the thoughts were on the various options for installing mods that are out there. I think Wrye Bash is still around, and there's the NMM and Steam. I'm leaning towards NMM, just because of ease of use, but I was wondering if the bashed patch was still pretty much a necessity, in which case, I guess I'd have to go with Wrye Bash. Thanks for any advice!
Werne
My suggestion, Wrye Bash. NMM is simple to use but there's always a chance that it will screw things up. Steam is, well, steam. Steam can install mods as easy as NMM but you'll need another mod manager to sort the load order which makes it more or less useless. Wrye Bash however has a wide range of tools and utilities that can make modding an enjoyable experience. Also, making a bashed patch is highly recommended, the game will work much better with it. Spinner385
I've use NMM since the beginning with no major issues. But I must admit it lacks in functionallity. Wish I could set up certain mods to load for certain setups (depending on the save). Nice to download straight to NMM from Nexus though. Haven't used Wyre Bash in a long time (since oblivion) so I can't bash it (excuse the pun).
GooeyGungan
Thanks, but I'm still on the fence here. On the one hand, I've used Wrye Bash forever and know how it works, plus I like all the detailed features. On the other, support is currently very limited, and I really like the convenience of a 1-click install. I've heard a bashed patch is unnecessary in Skyrim. Is this true? This seems like it may be the deciding factor for me.
Werne
I've heard a bashed patch is unnecessary in Skyrim. Is this true?Of course it's not true, Skyrim is the same as Oblivion when it comes to mods, bashed patch is equally necessary. Bashed patch merges leveled lists, form lists, etc. which adds stability. Having 2-3 mods changing one vendor's container will make them incompatible and bashed patch takes care of that and makes sure all items are spread properly across the lists. GooeyGungan
Alright. Wrye Bash it is, then. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that the dev team comes back to life.
