IndorilTheGreat
Well, I am sure several of you have heard about this. If not, here is the link: http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/0...ang-re-creatio/ The experiment (in theory) will accelerate particles to a speed that would be the equivalent of the "Big-Bang." Skeptics say that there will be a black hole formed, obliterating the Earth. Steven Hawking said that this is not true. Steven Hawking, however, has been known to be incorrect on his theories of Black Holes. What do you think?
WoogieMonster
I think it's fear-mongers doing what they do best, trying to scare people into changing something that they themselves do not understand. Or maybe they do understand it and are trying to start as much hype as they can because they realize that their lifelong beliefs are about to be disproved with the flip of a switch. Aside from Hawkins, several other top scientific professors have said that if they manage to create anything dangerous, it would not have the required energy to even be observed if they were not specifically looking for it. Or else we'd already be dead because it happens often enough in space all around us.

Well, I've read several different theories about this experiment, and all of them are quite different... Ranging from the experiment going "Pfff," to this machine "ripping" a hole in the time-space continum (which, I have to admit, would be kind-of cool :P ). If the Earth does indeed end tomorrow, I would like to be informed...
Blacksnake89
The whole time I was reading that I was thinking about how that thing could be used to create weapons. Is that bad?
WoogieMonster
According to Carl Sagan, "death by blackhole" would indeed be a super cool way to go, but it will not happen tomorrow. This is being done by just a few countries, I would think that the rest of the world would step in if there was a chance it could devour the planet. Funny thing is, this was supposed to be done in Texas, but they couldn't afford to build it (if I understood that correctly), who doesn't want to see that place disappear into the void of nothing? Just poking fun. EDIT: BlackSnake, the evil in me really likes the way you think.

Not necessarily. You just might have a mind based towards tactics. The only problem, is that it would cost too much, and be too unstable... But if we (the US) did indeed lose just Texas, that means that we would lose LHammonds as well! :( But he can probably fend it off! :P Wait, this is getting too off-topic. Let's get back on track.
Blacksnake89
Are you kidding LHammonds could fend off Chuck Norris if he had to.
Timihendrix91
IIRC, there is a 1 in 23,000,000,000 chance of something going wrong. I think considering those odds, it's worth to take the risk. Also, any black holes that could be created woud be microscopic and incredibly unstable. They would evaporate in under a second. Really though, I don't want to die yet, but I think if I had to die now dying in a black hole would be a pretty sweet way of doing it. If somehow something did go wrong and it did create a large black hole, we wouldn't even have a chance to feel pain.
