UnholyShadow
Several mods I recently downloaded make my game not start up. I ran obmm's conflict detector and nothing showed up with them, but they make my game not start up no matter what position they are in my load order. They are the last 5 I downloaded so I don't think there is a problem with the mods themselves. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Khet
First off, if you think it's those five disable the ones you think are causing the problem and make sure the game starts up. If it does then you know for a fact it's one of those. Then from there, enable ONLY one and start the game each time to make see if it's just one, or all five of them. After you've narrowed it down to just a single mod (or a group of mods) redownload them and reinstall the mods. Sometimes it's caused by a bad installation. I don't think the downloads are corrupted, because one is 14kb, so there is little chance it did not download properly. I'll try anyway and redownload one and see if it works, because it would make sense.
bben46
Many newer mods require the 1.2 patch, without it the will crash the game. Also, many mods, especially the larger ones require OBSE to be running first. If you do not launch OBSE before Oblivion, they will not workor crash on start up. It might help if you posted the mods you are having trouble with or maybe a load order list of all of your mods. Here is a way to get a load order if you don't know how. Often a load order list is needed for troubleshooting - The list in the Oblivion data list is not always in the order that things are actually loaded. How to get your load order list into a post using OBMM If you don't have OBMM, it is a great tool for managing mods as well as moving them in the load order and finding certain kinds of conflicts. It has many other capabilities, but this post is just to show how to get the load order list into a post for troubleshooting. First, of course you have to have OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) it's available free from the author's site here: http://timeslip.chorrol.com/ Look in the column on the left side, find the heading “Oblivion mod manager”To download, click on the download just below the heading. A new page will open with a list of different ways to install – pick the self installer.Save the file, the best place is a separate folder you make mine is on the desk top and is oblivion downloads\OBMM. The main folder is called Oblivion Downloads. Then a subfolder inside that is called OBMM) After it has downloaded, open that folder and find the file you just downloaded. It will be named obmm.zip. Click on it to start the install. It should automatically find your Oblivion and install itself in the right place. It will also give you the option of creating a desktop icon, a Quick launch icon. I recommend only the desktop icon. Then the options for associating files – select all of these. When it finishes installing, OBMM will start automatically. It will start with a list of your mods on the left pane in their current load order. Active mods will be checked and inactive will have an empty check box. To copy the load order, look on the right, you will see a box with 'Import/Export'. Click that. Then select the first option, 'View Load Order' A new window will open with only your active mods listed in their load order. Use your mouse to highlight the entire list, then left click on the highlighted list. A box will open with Cut, copy paste. Select copy – DO NOT SELECT CUT! Now you can close the window and close OBMM (This might take a few minutes as OBMM takes a while to close.) Go to where you want to put the load order list – I recommend creating either a text document or a word processing document and naming it load order and the date (load order 6-22-08.txt) Then open that document, place your cursor at the beginning and right click. Select paste. This should copy your load order into the document. Now, to get the load order into a post, open the forum, find where you want to place the load order list and paste it. The copied text will be inserted where you place the mouse cursor.
UnholyShadow
I don't think it is a problem with my load order, as I have never had a problem with it that I couldn't fix by just moving the mod around. The mods that do not work are Nature's Bounty, Rune Skulls, The companion cube mod, flame ring, and the Cheydinhal pet shop. Here is my load order. Edit: I just downloaded a rather large new mod, and it works fine. I do not have any idea why those 5 mods do not work. Khet
Hmm Runeskulls shouldn't be giving you any trouble if you're patched to 1.2 as for the others I don't quite know about, but read their readme or descriptions on the Nexus site (or wherever you downloaded them from) and make sure that they don't require OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender). If they do and you don't have it then go ahead and download that (Quick google should pull up the link) and then you're good to go. Also double check that they aren't addons for another mod as that could also cause problems and crash your game. (Like the oblivion book jacket mod and bookplacing)
UnholyShadow
I am patched to 1.2 and I have the latest version of obse. I really don't think there is anything wrong with my load order or compatibility, because there are no conflicts with them, and I have never had any trouble with my load order. Seeing as the mods that don't work are the last 6 or so I downloaded, and none of them work as the only one enabled, out of the mods I downloaded recently, I think there is something else wrong. Also, this may have nothing to do with it, but it seems like when Oblivion actually starts up, it takes a long time to close, longer than when before I got this problem. I also just realized that after I disabled Lock Bash, Rune Skulls started working. Edit: The more mods I disable, the more new ones work, but I'm not even close to the limit yet. Khet
This might be going out on a limb, but even though you're not near the limit your computer itself might be unable to handle it. Dunno, just a guess.
UnholyShadow
I have a fairly nice computer, that can run Oblivion on pretty high settings without much stuttering. Do text documents and images in your data folder count towards the max amount?
