Arneercool
This is an early, early -pre-pre-alpha list. V.0000000.1, build upon a checklist i made for myself over the years. Made for vortex and win10pro. This is not meant as a guide at this point, and it will never replace anything that exists, especially loadorder guides, this is purely meant as help to new modders with a complete quality of life overhaul of their modding habits aiming for an overall good modding experience regardless of what mods are used. This is meant to eliminate any system issues related to modding. It is meant to give you control and make it possible for you to install a 100 plugin loadorder in 20 minutes, and reset everything with a few simple deletes and copypastes. I need to know if the scope is too big and confusing to be of any use, so please indulge me, and do not under any circumstance use this setup. just yet. I'm open to suggestions, but nobody likes being called mean things, so please move along if this somehow urks you. If i'm wrong about something, kindly point it out to me and i will look into this, as this is as much as a learning experience for me as for you. If you have something that i absolutely need to add into the guide as it stands so far, please also let me know as it is the side point of this post. Finally you need to keep in mind this is an early unfinished and unformatted draft, and that my first language is not English. A few words. Successful, and not the least stressless modding starts way before you even install your game and are dependent on more than fast gpu and cpu, although it helps if you are aiming for 4k. And no matter what you do gamebryo games are born with flaws so your game will NEVER 'just work', but you can get close enough to find it enjoyable and learn a bunch underway. Regarding the actual modding of the game I found it helped me enormously to know where every little bit and program goes, and why,and i can not understate the pure joy i experience from having moved steam and game away from the c:drive, and if you are in it for the long haul you will eventually end up with the same realization is my guess. Pre-Guide. . Reinstall windows 10 on a small 110gb ssd/ fast hdd, update it completely. ( any ssd works, but using a small one is ok) Make sure that windows defender is fully updated, do not install any other "anti-virus". The why: Because antivirus is annoying and useless on a pure working/gaming pc, and ads another layer for your programs to navigate through and mess up. Use your head when browsing from this point on,keep defender updated at all times, or better yet have some shitty laptop to do your regular browsing on. And only EVER use nexus and silverlock.org, unless you just absolutely need something nexus does not provide, then download it manually and have defender check it individually. Reputable authors githups is also ok. . Plug in yet another 500-1tb ssd/ fast hdd. Name it as you normally would, Something D: (This needs to be fast and big because this one will accommodate your games and mods so i can only reccomend ssd). . Follow this windows 10 optimization guide.(*Put guide here) Download essential programs such as 7zip. Do NOT install Steam or vortex yet. The why: Especially later versions of windows are so full of bloatware that it is unbelievable, this will have a direct impact on your game. I also realize that investing in an ssd for this might be a bit too much, but if you plan to move massive amounts of textures around, 500gb ssd suddenly seems small, and you need that ssd speed for it to be bearable. . (Guide about tuning gpu and drivers). This is less helpful that one would think. Setting up Steam and game. 1. On your (500gb-1tb ssd) -D: you will now make a folder, call it 'SteamAlternativeInstall', or something you like as long as you remember it and it is easily identifiable with steam. 2. Install steam in the folder you just created. 3. Install SkyrimSE/Fallout as you normally would, steam will put the game where it needs to be, to be safe check that everything goes on D: 4. In steam, go to settings>ingame> and turn off the following: 'Enable the steam overlay while in-game' 'Use the big picture overlay when using steam input enabled controller' 5. Go to Steam library, right click Fallout/Skyrim>properties>Updates> and under automatic updates set it to 'only update this game when i launch it'. 6. Now launch the game, start new, and close it down again. 7. Delete the desktop shortcut. 8. On your D: drive, right next to your D:'SteamAlternativeInstall' folder,or the name you gave it, you will now make 2 new folders and call one 'Modtools' and the other 'ModAssets' 9. Manually download these programs from nexus, either from the SkyrimSe or Fallout4 pages Locate your downloaded files and extract these folders. -A. BethIni- Extract to 'D:Modtools' -B. FallrimTools- Extract to 'D:Modtools' -C. FOedit- Extract to 'D:Modtools' -D. Fallout configuration tool- Extract to 'D:Modtools' -E. Mator Smash- Extract to 'D:Modtools' -F. SSEDIT- Extract to 'D:Modtools' -G. Wrye Bash- install vanilla launcher. (creation kit, bsa extractors, gimp and so on goes in an advanced creators section.) Installing Vortex. 1. Download and install the default Vortex launcher to default on C:, this is very important. DEFAULT, as advised by the vortex creators. 2. In your 'D:ModAssetsfolder, it should still be empty at this point, you will now make 3 folders, one called 'Downloaded mods', one called 'Fallout staged mods', and lastly one called 'Skyrim staged mods' 3. Open Up vortex (Insert vortex setup guide with correct paths to newly created folders) 4. Back-up mods and original game and .ini files.( Guide here) 5. Ini-setup (Guide here) 6. Logging in to vortex. Ease of access. 1. Setting up the most used shortcuts. 2. 3. Introduction to plugin-programs. 1. (Short introduction to individual programs such as BEth-ini FOedit and wrye/mator.) 2. (Cleaning) 3. Script extenders and Dll loaders. 1. (Short introduction to this topic.) 2. 3. Load order and overwrite rules. 1.(Suggestion to initial 10-20 plugin loadorder with guide and built in issues that needs solving) 2.(Links to other loadorders lists) 3.(How to bake your textures directly into the game) General Bugfixing/make a patch.
