TheUKJester
Hi All, I have noticed a lot of people (including myself) have had the issue of when clicking start on skyrim it gets to the dragon logo and then crashes to desktop. Now i use Nexus Mod Manager and my problem was having a corrupt mod file/files these were causing the game to crash to desktop. Now for the long winded process of sorting this out, what i did was as follows.... Click the (Plugins) Tab in Nexus Mod Manager and make sure that ALL!! of your downloaded Mods that are in there are unticked, start the game and if it does not crash to desktop simply exit the game and then in Nexus Mod Manager click the first Mod which is under (Skyrim.esm) and then click play and see if the game loads up without crashing to desktop, if it doesn't repeat the process of ticking each Mod, then if the game does crash to desktop again then make sure you untick that last Mod as this will be the culprit thats causing it to crash, there maybe more corrupt Mods in your plugins so simply keep doing what i have told you until you have ruled out ALL!! corrupted Mods, then simply play the game and kill as many Imperial scum bags as you can. I hope this helps if not message me on here and i will answer your queries. Happy Gaming!
TheUKJester
Or instead of going into Nexus Mod Manager you can go into Data Files on Skyrim Launcher and do the same thing.
xNodus
Not really, no. I've found that Skyrim just crashes when loading for no apparent reason. I tried running it w/o any mods running and it still crashed. On another laptop, I fixed this by adding the Skyrim.esm to the plugins list, which was not needed, but it still didn't crash once. On my Desktop, however, this doesn't seem to work. Also, I sometimes get rendering problems, some parts just don't seem to get rendered so I end up falling into grey nothingness. Sometimes going to an inn and writing 'pcb' fixes it, sometimes I just need to reinstall. I now reinstall almost every day. It's really annoying. kaizersoze27
XNodus: Could you deactivate all mods, move all your saves to a different location and check if you are able to start the game? if yes, the run the 'tgm' command in console to make your character in god mode and go to all locations that are missing textures and check if the issue is resolved
xNodus
Nah, it's my save that gets corrupted. The problem is Skyrim on its own is crap for me. Well, after getting the mods I have now, anyway. I've completed the game like 3 times and I'm still playing because I find new mods every day.
kaizersoze27
Install the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, it makes the saves light by removing unwanted stuff and fixing many many bugs, it would be good to update to 1.7, they have fixed lot of bugs as well. Since the patch and update, I am running fine
TheUKJester
Thats really strange i never knew of any other problem causing it to crash to desktop other than shitty Mods, not sure if a defrag on hard drive will help, also download windows washer and run that, then see if it fixes it bro
tonycubed2
I know you mean well, but LOTS of things can cause CTDs besides bad mods. And sometimes its a combination of good mods. Your solution is very partial at best, does not take into account for example enb installs.
