Keeping my savegame?

Hi, I know this is a bit of a controversial topic and I really wouldn't want to get banned so I hope people can see the good in what I'm doing and offer some advice!

Basically, I started playing Skyrim on a cracked copy given to me by a friend, and have since amassed copious hours of gameplay. After getting really into it, I've decided I want to buy the proper copy so I can get all the nice updates and start using the creation kit for modding. And seeing as there's a sale on for half price (!) on Steam, I really want to get it and go legit.

My question is can I move my already played save files over to the legit copy or will I have to start the game all over again?

Can anyone shed light on this? I really want the proper copy but also don't want to lose over 200 hours of playtime!

I hope this doesn't get me banned, I'm not advertising piracy and I honestly would like to switch to legit, one for for my own enjoyment, but as well as to support for the developers who clearly love what they do.

Thanks in advance.

Saves should work if they are in your my documents folder (or some central location). I've had several games I've uninstalled and then reinstalled some time later that worked with the saves I had before (sometimes from years ago) in my documents. Saves should be located in Documents/My Documents - My Games - Skyrim - Saves. If you find your saves there they would probably work in the legit copy.

But these were for legit games, but I assume it would still work regardless.

I'd have put a lot less hours in on an illegitimate copy than you did before deciding if it was worth it or not considering how inferior a cracked copy always is compared to a legit copy.
