Open the DG in the Creation Kit

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

After the release of the Dawnguard I tried to open it in the Creation Kit, but it doesnt work to simply open the "dawnguard.esm" along with the main "skyrim.esm" and "update.esm".

If anyone knows how to open (load) the DG.esm in the CK, please teach me. ^ ^

I read someone's note that the DG data in DATA folder should be extracted to the BSA file, and I noticed that there is the DG bsa file in the DATA folder.

I wonder if I should extract data of this bsa file to normal data like textures/meshes/voices...etc, and put all of them into DATA folder.

But I fear that if I put all the extracted normal data in the DATA folder and over-write the current texture/meshes/etc folder, the game crashes when it loading the original DG.esm file.

Because it seems the game loads each of the same file twice.

anyway, for now, I cannot manage to open the DG.esm for seeing the contents.

Please help me. T_T

The only thing you need to do is open the SkyrimEditor.ini file. You will find this in the Skyrim game folder.

Scroll down to the [Archive] section and look for the line that reads -

SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa

and add Dawnguard.bsa to the end, so that it reads -

SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa

Save and load the CK with Dawnguard.esm selected. You will get reported errors, but just click Yes to All and eventually it will load.

@ Tamb0

Thanks for the solution for my problem.

I can open the DG.esm now thanks to you. ^ ^

And also I found out that this "SkyrimIniEditer" file is very useful when I make a mod.

I still dont know what this "Editor" is, but I should learn more about this kind of file for making better mod. ^ ^

Anyway I am glad to have solved the problem in a very easy way (I expected much complicated method). o/ o/

The 'Editor' is the Creation Kit. The CK reads this file at startup and gets all the various settings from it.
