Keychains5
What do you mean in step 2? Open steam and go to the Games library. Right click on skyrim and select "delete local content" For step two you are completely removing any trace of the original skyrim install you had. (after backing up all the files you want to too keep) The best way to do this is to delete the skyrim folder itself C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim At this point it should no longer exist and you can re download it. I have a list of mods that will still work for it, however this list is incomplete im sure of that.
Keychains5
I was told to enthrall Dexion in Prophet quest, I used vampiric seductive on him and feed on him, the quest just won't proceed and unable to command him. Do you have any mods installed? Here is a list of know working mods. Feel free to add to it. -Deadly Dragons-Dragons Diversified-Enhanced blood textures-Armored Horses-Improved Arch mages robes-Lanterns of Skyrim-Midas Skyrim (NOT tytanis mod version, that f*#@s up the game. )-Cartographers map markers-The dance of death-UFO -Ulitmate Follower Overhaul-BDO Theses are the only mods I am using currently I beat dawn-guard with them on with no errors. ***Done on the vampire side. iceburg
I'm having the problems stated in the first post. A completely clean install is currently off the table for me: it would cause too many tears.I turned off all mods - that did nothing. (I'm thinking this is a mesh problem, not an esp problem)deleting / renaming my actors folder made the crossbow problem go away, but didn't fix the gargoyals.I'll keep poking around. Hopefully someone will figure this out, without us having to re-install everything.NOTE: When I say 'delete' a folder, I'm just renaming the folder something else (example: "mesh-deleted") so that the game doesn't recognize the folder and flips to reading the bsa. Don't actually delete anything when you're poking around. :) EDIT: I'm using XCE better characters mod (currently a popular mod) and I'm noticing it has no effect, even when I move the bsa to a different folder... this means something....The bsa is not being overwritten by loose files. Why??? EDIT: Deleting (read renaming) the meshes folder forces the game to just go off bsas and then it works fine. This confirms it's definitely a mesh overriding problem. It's a mesh problem with a non-dawnguard mesh that Dawnguard relies on. (Otherwise extracting would copy over the bad mesh and fix it). I'm going to look further into this, and try to confirm / poke around why the bsa isn't being over ridden by loose files.-'Deleting' the actors folder semi-fixes the crossbow, but nothing else (and the crossbow doesn't work as well as when all meshes are deleted).-------------------------------------------------Alright, here's what I got:1) Delete Data\meshes\animationdatasinglefile.txt2) Delete Data\meshes\animationsetdatasinglefile.txt3) Rename Data\meshes\actors\character to something else: "character-deleted" for example. -In these three steps you will fix:1) 1st person crossbow animation2) 3rd person crossbow animation3) Gargoyle animations (and I assume other creatures as well)4) Horse combat animations (need to test that)5) Probably not get to use animation mods (maybe not custom races either, but don't know) This should make you're game work fine without haveing to kill off all of your mods and reinstall everything. :D* This one plays as a khajiit, who is a werewolf. (Shouldn't make a difference).I was able to narrow down the 1stperson animations to data\actors\character\1stperson, but you have to rename the whole character folder anyhow so it doesn't matter. Seems like those whole animation folders are bad, but it's better than an entire re-install plus losing all of your mods. I'm gonna do a bit more research and see if the bsa really isn't getting over-ridden by loose files, but that's another topic anyhow. I'm gonna do a bit more research and see if the bsa really isn't getting over-ridden by loose files, but that's another topic anyhow. a lot of the problems arise simply because the resources are being overridden by custom content from mods. If you restore all folder to a near to the state of an original install (meaning all resource folders and setting are default ) all errors will dissapear. Obviously it may not be convenient to do this. The trick after that is turning all your mods back on in the correct order as to not break the game or cause errors. I was able to get all the mods I was using prior to dawnguard excluding Tytanus (it is simply to big to be adjusted atm it may work for some things but that mod changes so much you really dont even know what it does completely ) SO to revise what I said originally you may not need to completely reinstall. just set things back to default then turn your mods back on. To do this simplar to what you said, you need to rename or move all the resource folders in skyrim/ and data/then run check game cache (after copying main bsa files to save time). this restores the a pseudo clean intall state and allows you to reactivate your mods. NOTE: If you are able to create a fresh install on different computer you can simply copy the files from that directory into your old one with all the mods on and it should work. (provided you fix needed resources for mods) Hope you get things working! good luck. Message me if you have specific questions. iceburg
A fresh install definitely would work, but my method is a lot faster and more convenient, if it works for the person (it worked for me). If it doesn't work, your way is definitely the way to go.Thanks man. :)Ice
cycloney911
I had couples of mods and never re-installed Skyrim, once i played Dawnguard, the only problem i encountered were some CTD which were around 4-5 during the entire game time. I Re-installed Skyrim because of a graphical issue and major bugs such as bloated saves started occurring. Ahh well, more problem solving methods to go! Beware tho, if you have few problems with Dawnguard such as few CTD and so, i won't recommend Re-installing Skyrim...

Got so big the frame rate went down to near stopmotion animation.
kkwongyung
oh my zhenle, you have the same problem as I do. I cant enthrall him at all. cast seduction on him and then he's kneeling, there's no option to feed, and after a while he gets up. there is only a pickpocket menu this whole time. vasthrana
To be honest, I won't even bother with the DLC/further patches than 1.6... Currently I have the game modded with close to 300 mods and it is running without a hinch, I KNOW that won't be the case with dawnguard, let alone the newly announced dlc. I have more than enough extra content and before they won't let me have sex with a dragon or something completely brainblasting, I doubt I will ever update. From what I have been gathering on the new patch and dawnguard is that it seems like another rushed add-on by bethesda's "awesome" (sarcasm) coders. The modders are doing a far better job adding content than bethesda will ever do. The best advice I can give anyone right now is to stay with 1.6 untill the mods/unofficial bugfix patches etc catch up to failguard and the new patch, and follow the same route on the newly announced dlc. OR get a mod that implements similar content to the dlc (would probably be less buggy anyway)
