Should you find items or buy or earn?

There seems to be a lot of arguing because of certain items you can have.

 

So in light of this I decided to find out what people think of achieving items.

 

Should you just have to find the item in a mod, like at a statue?

 

Should you have to earn enough gp to buy the item?

 

Should you have to undergo some quest or explore to get to the item? (not same as find)

 

Anyone who thinks what one should be done just say so.
