Soul Cairn Glitch

I'm getting pretty exasperated with dawnguard. The first glitch that I ran into had to do with the monk "being busy", I shot him and that somehow fixed the problem. Currently I am trying to have Serena open the Soul Cairn (vampire lord). I successfully acquired all of the necessary ingredients and put them into the bowl, although they are displayed as extremely glitchy whenever i look at them. After doing that i talk to serena and say "I'm ready". She stands there and does nothing. The bowl has some sort of EXTREMELY glitchy blood graphic in it that shows up once in a while, but she doesn't say anything, and doesn't actually cut her arm. The Soul Cairn remains shut. I tried disabling my mods and continuously got "The Cure" quest dialogue popping up so i was only able to remove most of them.

 

It isn't a performance issue as i have all my drivers updated and my computer is more than adequate to run this game on whatever graphics i want. I was wondering if there was a fix out for this, or if perhaps anybody else was having this problem.

i looked around and found this. posted incase anybody else runs into this problem. setting it to 90 essentially opens the portal for you without ruining your questline.
